Its hit my Dad very hard (as you’d imagine), as John was heavily involved in horses for a while there and was one of those ‘close who you don’t see often friends’.
He was a huge laugh at the pub, I remember him after the Kihikihi Rodeo (I think) and he was awesome in front of a pub full of Rodeo cowboys and gang members.

Amazing life - wrote cook-books, was an accomplished sculptor, singer and director. Worked in a advertising agency while at acting school and was offered a 1/3 share which would have made him a multi-millionaire but turned it down for acting.
When he found out that Harvey Weinstein had had his daughter Mira blacklisted after she rejected his advances, he said: “Weinstein’s going to go to jail. Oh yeah… Good for him if he goes, because if not, he has to meet me… If I had known it, he would not be walking. He’d be in a wheelchair”

What a trailblazer. At a time when there were few or no strong black women characters on TV, she was there on the bridge of the USS Enterprise, and doing vital work. And IIRC she shared the first interracial kiss with JTK
