@Bovidae Yeah I had downloaded Bosch ages ago, but haven't watched it yet.
I've only got the last season and Legacy to watch. A really good show.
The Boys is mental!
The first two seasons were great fun!

Episode 1 of The Old Man
Fucking Rad
Violent as shit.
Even trying to pace myself, I watched the last available episode last night... but looking into it - Episode 8 should be released tonight, or overnight? (It looks like it's probably the finale - which means I've actually paced my watching perfectly. Sweet.)
They do a fucking good job of balancing story-development/violent-as-shit/investiture-in-characters. And while I've become EXTREMELY jaded about flash-backs with some of the shit movies I've watched this year... in this - I was actually looking forward to the flashback scenes.
(Spoiler - after Episode 1 - there are flashback scenes. It shouldn't come as any surprise in a show about an old man who clearly has a 'past", but if you're a fucking idiot... sorry.)I see a Season 2 has been green-lit... I'm not sure about that, but... willing to give it a go.

I’ve been pleasantly surprised that for the flashback scenes they bothered to get younger actors who plausibly could have matured into the older versions.
I like how they’ve quite cleverly managed to position John Lithgow as someone you can invest in even though he’s the “baddie” while the “goodie” Jeff Bridges has some pretty major moral failings.

Yeah - I'd forgotten that, as I've just become used to it, and taking it for granted...
the casting of the younger versions was spectacular.
And the coaching of voices/mannerisms - fucking well done. Perhaps - as @Crucial suggests - to a fault, or over-done, at times.
Not really a spoiler, but, I know some are sensitive to such things...
(To be fair - I remember reading a review of The Usual Suspects, and it roughly described the concept/plot - and then said "oh, and the twist is awesome" - and that was enough to guess what the "twist" was. So... better safe/v/sorry)
##spoiler
One thing which I thought was over-done... even though it was only really said a couple of times - but in relatively short succession - near the beginning - somebody stating the old "you never know if you're the villain of the story" or "everybody's the villain in somebody else's story" - or something like that. The first time made sense, but the second time it was said - it seemed deliberate, and a bit of a sledgehammer "remember this line was said right at the beginning, you fucking idiots".

Just started watching this.
The Dude is certainly more onto it and violent as an older man that’s for sure.

I read that there have been complaints about the lack of subtitles in The Old Man. I'm glad I am not the only person who found all those lengthy flashback scenes in Ep4 frustrating to watch when you had no idea what was being said. Maybe this is only a D+ problem in NZ.

That confused me too. I usually have captions on and thought that was over-riding the subtitles so stopped and played with the settings.
Edit: found a Geekzone post where someone contacted Disney and the reply infers that it wasn't intentional and they are looking into a fix.

Seven episodes this season it seems. There will be a second season.
Muthafuc....
Now it feels like a shit ending... but I suspect if I'd gone into it KNOWING that it was the final episode, I could have enjoyed it more as a "and this is the situation we'll be starting from in Season 2" type ending. -
Just finished The Old Man
Acting is top notch - John Lithgow is always superb. Cinematography is high quality. Old people moving like age catches up with well trained individuals provides the realism desperately missing from modern cinema.
Action scenes directed and shot magnificently. Nice to vehicles involved in a bit of argy bargy actually show battle scars and continuity mean something. The additional cost and effort is something I appreciate.
Spook tropes weren't overplayed either.
##spoiler
Nice twist at the end, certainly not implausible nor a ridiculous confection you couldn't see as possible.
##endspoilerSeason 2 thoughts:

What decision(s) does the daughter make and the impact on the services (FBI/ CIA) is my guess for plot direction. I doubt she'd be happy.
##endspoilerCertainly worth watching.

Finished The Boys
That show is mental!
Always finding new ways to make people go "WTF did I just watch!"
From the termite to hand jobs to dildos to orgies, quality TV!

@MN5 was a bit disappointed with Midnight Mass.
##spoiler
In that it was just bloody vampires...otherwise good
##endspoilerYeah actually the ending was a bit flat after some wonderful tension building.
Perhaps it just seemed great next to Resident Evil which was quite shite all round

##spoiler- 4 black SUVs provided by the same government department
- turns out there's a 1-on-3 bit of the ol' argy-bargy
- For some reason the 1 happens to be a different brand to the other 3
- The 1 comes out on top
- The 1 gets a close-up of the brand

Product placement these days is just ridiculous. I heard somewhere that iPhones aren't allowed to appear if they're being used by bad-guys? And in this case, and having re-watched the latest Bond recently... it seems Range Rover's aren't allowed to be written off?

@MN5 I liked it but it was lacking in something...
Haven't bothered with resident evil, but it keeps popping up for me to watch....
Not sure I’d bother. Nothing you probably haven’t seen a million times before.
The evil head corporate bitch is pretty hot but ( I can’t believe I’m saying this ) people fighting zombies and the odd massive creature is pretty boring nowadays.

Weren't they all Rangies, just different (older) models?
