Then you have guys like Joseph and Brown who, despite only wanting to be the top guy in the setup, need to be harnessed if at all possible.

Is a bloke who only wants to be top dog, and not get stuck in at Assistant level, the right sort of fit with the AB family culture?

How & when did NZ rugby (as opposed to NZR) develop this thinking in it's top coaches?

Maybe it's an impossible task getting these guys on the same page.

It seemed to work in the past pretty well, what has changed and what can NZR do about it?

yep, this all falls on those that extended his contract last year, without putting anything in there in case what has happened, happened.

Spot on. And we can but hope they now have some sort of contingency plan in place - bit late but better than nothing.

@Chester-Draws said in Foster must go / Assistant Coach changes:

If Robertson comes in and does like Rennie did with the Chiefs, there may be some red faces around here.

Sure he might not be able to turn the ABs around.

But some of the people here seem to regard that as also meaning he won't. Like they actually want him not to do so.

Well, I can't speak for anyone else, but I want any AB coach to do brilliantly and for us to beat the living crap out of every team we front up against - but that doesn't mean I'm not going to critique the Foster replacement options to ensure that happens.

And I'm certainly not going to join some of the posters here who want the ABs to lose to hasten Foster's demise in the hope of getting their preferred Head Coach.

@No-Quarter said in Foster must go / Assistant Coach changes:

For all the talk of wanting a head coach with international experience, Foster had none at all. So NZR already went against their own ethos of wanting that before taking on the top job.

That depends on what you consider to be international experience. Foster was the co-coach of the JABs with Colin Cooper, and they played the PI teams, Japan and Aust A over that period.

@No-Quarter Coaching a leading, consistently successful SR side has similar requirements for coaching a successful international team. The NZR need their head read.
They've had a spring clean, they should have had the courage to re-lay the foundations.

I've not been on the Fozzie hate train.

Until now. I can't see him staying.

Down to 5th in the world and I think that rating is flattering to be honest.

5th? Is that our lowest ever? Those Americans must be counting their stocks right now!

Silverlake invested in the "greatest rugby team ever" brand. Not the "5th best rugby team".

NZRU is under a lot of pressure now.

Including our last victory against South Africa, we are 3 from 9 against tier one teams.

Our first 3 in a row losses since 98. But another foster record, first time ever for three in a row losses all by 10 points plus. The man is a buffoon

All Blacks coach Ian Foster has found the silver lining in the All Blacks' worst defeat to South Africa in 94 years.

Foster praised his team's performance in their 26-10 loss to South Africa at Mbombela Stadium, their worst since losing 17-0 to the Boks in 1928.

    FFS he's utterly delusional

Jesus, he's seeing improvements, the loss is all down to not being able to take the high ball. I'm utterly gob smacked, no mea culpa at all. There was improvement, maul defence, thanks Ryan.

'Best performance of year': ABs coach's stunning claim after horror loss

'Best performance of year': ABs coach's stunning claim after horror loss

It was the ABs' worst defeat to South Africa in 94 years, but Foster found positives.

    Whereas the neutral observers say:

The game went almost precisely to script with the Springbok set-piece, defence and aerial dominance proving far too strong for a toothless and tactically appalling New Zealand.

Put simply, the contrast between the shambles of the All Black game plan and the organisation and efficiency of the Boks could not be more stark – it was men against boys.

Sam Cane remarked after the game that this was ‘a loss of small margins’. If that’s genuinely what he believes after a performance in which New Zealand were lucky to finish second then you have to wonder if he’s simply deflecting criticism or if he’s completely deluded.

Rarely has an All Black side looked so lost in the Test arena

@Tim 1 from 4 this year alone, will be 1 from 5 after next week.

Didn't get up for this one, looking at the HT/FT score I don't think I'll bother with the replay, mowing lawns appeals more 🤔

What other records can we break this year?

    First 4 in a row?
    First 5 in a row?
    Lose Bledisloe?
    Lose at Eden Park?
    Lose to Wales?
    Lose to Scotland?

Rinse and repeat, 2004 - 2011 Chiefs fans.

He'll have to be sacked because he lacks the insight or courage to ever step down.

He may well want the pay day, I wonder if even the WRU would hire him now.

We lost 6 in a row in 98, I think Edit nope 5, Samoa got a spanking in the sixth game haha

But the next 4 are totally on the cards if Foster stays in.

@Machpants looks like 5 in 1998, beat england before that run but drew with England in last match of 1997.

    So worst run this century...

    The hits keep coming!
