Been getting into Glen Campbell over the last week or so. Never quite realised he was also a genuine Guitar God who would probably be in the top 10 in any genre. That said, this is seriously un-cool though
Not quite sure about that….but he was definitely very good.
I only really discovered his playing until a few months ago, but he was arguably the most versatile of the lot. Top drawer in Rock and roll, classical, jazz, country, 6-string, 12-string, banjo, rock and everything in between - both solo and hundreds of recordings with The Wrecking Crew.

Uncool for many (not @Tim) I'm not a huge fan of the Silk Degrees era, probably due to being overplayed and everywhere when growing up but it is quite obviously quality in musicianship and worth another listen.
Lots of Boz's discography is really worth picking through though. He came full circle back to his 60s blues band origins over time and his period with the Muscle Shoals backing guys is really good.

That song and album is incredibly evocative for me both when it came out and again when I rediscovered it. Epic and pretty happy times in my life.

@Crucial That whole album is great, and that song is an all timer. Toto were the backing band, as they were for Michael Jackson's Thriller.
Excellent backing band and musicians but their songs are shite (IMO). Pedant alert though. 'Toto' didn't exist as a band when Silk degrees was recorded.
I certainly appreciate the craft of the album but really don't find the songs themselves age well.
Much prefer his period with Duane Allman and his 'rootsier' stuff. Maybe for the other thread. -

Song that I love to keep it on topic.

@Crucial his Live at the Great American Music Hall album is a goody.
Lost all his toys and a lifetimes memorabilia to California wild fire a few years back. I visited his vineyard in 2008.
Living the dream. Acclaimed musician, no real money issues, semi-retire to produce Syrah

@broughie Yeah, he’s a very understated guitarist. On this track I like the combination of his guitar and the pedal steel which never quite descends into C&W. The hammond sounds almost Roy Phillips 60s swing which I can usually take or leave, but here it works.

Been listening to the Rock 2000 countdown this past month. Staggered to hear my fave 3 rock bands in the top 3 songs overall, Metallica Foo Fighters and Lynyrd Skynyrd. But the song I thought would top it finished around 30. Freebird. They were awesome in Taupo and I love so many of their songs but never thought that Simple Man was one of the very best. New number one of all time... Go figure.
At last I feel justified singing and bopping to these 3 bands when I hear them in public... -

If we are going to go music on this thread ... I have to put my enjoyment of Kid Rock on this thread ...
Especially All Summer Long.
(ducks for cover)
I think there is/was a specific thread for that.
And it reminded me of a whole heap of "uncool" music which I secretly enjoyed, and wanted to add to a "dangerous-mood-setting-motorbike-riding-playlist" - which definitely included at least one Kid Rock song. -

But I'm ok with others having different opinions to me.
