To quote Marty McFly in Back to the Future…..

‘Didn’t that guy ever have hair?’

    Awesome energetic performance though.

    Love the Oils !!!

I'm a massive Oils fan. Seen them heaps of times, simply a magnificent "pub band"*; always full energy that gets the crowd pumping. The Red Sails - Diesel & Dust - Blue Sky Mining albums were on heavy rotation during the 80s and 90s.

And for all I loved the energy, I've probably played this song more than any other. Kiwi lad Bones Hillman (Wayne Stevens) on the bass and background vocals makes this song IMO.

Last time I saw them live was about five -six years ago and they move like old people. The anger and energy of their youth is no longer apparent in their shows.

I'm really getting into Queens Of The Stone Age at the moment.

Never been huge on them, enjoyed their big songs but not much beyond. But after seeing Josh Homme on stage a couple f months ago, has piqued my interest.

One song on Rated R was kind of familiar so was racking my brains. Realised it was on one of those free sampler CD's that magazines used to give away. Really liked the riffing in it, but used to get annoyed that it never really got going. Anyway, it's still some great riffs, despite not being a great song.

My lesser known favourites of theirs are “Back on the Borderline” and “US forces”.

The musos in the band do some really clever stuff, certainly far more than just old chrome domes back up band !

@MN5 Despite not being in step with their political stances on things like progress and climate I love
US Forces, One country Put That Weapon Down, Only the Strong, and many more. 10, 9, 8 is excellent. Great distinctive voice and delivery and lyrics with more intelligence shown that normal crap on the radio.

I listen to whether I like the song or not far more than any “message” it might convey.

I’m very low brow like that.

…..and furthermore Garrett is such a unique frontman. Even some of my other favourite singers have a few who sound like others. Not him.

I wonder how much money they’ve made from their music ? I know they’re world famous in Oz and NZ but how did they go overseas ? I genuinely don’t know.

Easily my second favourite Oz band ever. They can’t quite top AC/DC but it’d be absolute daylight to any others.

Australians are better at sports than music.

Something about Homme rubs me up the wrong way... and I never wanted to like the QOTSA
... but I have to admit that whenever I've watched/listened to a gig of theirs on the websites... it's fucking fun.

I agree his voice is very unique, kind of like there's only one Johnny Cash although different genre.

I had to go through the albums today as I forgot how much I like the music. Although I'm not an accomplished guitarist, that's for my next life, my pin to pick up on all the little guitar bits and whoever he is he's pretty good. In fact they are all good musicians incorporating so many different sounds and rhythms. Love the guitar sound in now or never land and the simplicity of 2 notes in feeding frenzy which is all that is needed.

So no love for LRB eh?

I'm pretty sure there are pockets of areas in the states where they were more accepted but they had some hits like beds are burning which grinds on me now.

LRB were ok. Third spot goes to Icehouse. They did a couple of bangers.

Could never stand INXS, Hoodoo Gurus, Siverchair or Powderfinger.

I am a massive Kylie Minogue fan, her music is average though.

In terms of the guitar I’m playing a bit of acoustic and teaching the girl too. YouTube is awesome as you can guarantee there’s a half hour lesson on how to play pretty much anything. I’m learning a new song a week quite comfortably.
