Quite a common occurrence of the time, I believe. A teenage girl suddenly disappears for several months, "visiting family", and then comes home at around the same time that her mother suddenly has another baby.Wow. Classic.
As to "attempted carnal knowledge" - my understanding is that it is simply as it literally describes - an attempt to have sex. BUT.... only typically used in reference to when that sex would have been unlawful, for any reason. Underage, disabled, intoxicated, etc, etc.
Yep. Mum just sent me clippings from the paper and they were underaged. Spent 9 weeks in jail and obviously should have been more! He was a character though and fun to be around but he had bad side to him. Would make my Nana pay for the coal he would bring back from the West Coast so he had beer money. That stopped abruptly when one of my Aunts found out and gave him the message. Possibly his heritage in the West Coast might be akin to the those in "Deliverance".

Yeah my mum's uncle was actually her half brother, we only found out when his daughter was trying to get her passport and things didn't add up. But my grandma, along with being a narcissistic bitch, ran off with a young Fijian boy leaving my oldest aunty, and my grandad, to look after the 4 kids.

I like to to explore my family tree every now and then.
When my Grandfather was 18 he knocked up a 14 year old and was quite likely made to marry her. No police record found around that. They divorced in 3 years later and he married my Nana in his 30's. My dad never met his half brother as he went to WW2 and died at 20. My Grandad moved to OZ with his mum after his father died in WW1. I found a report that he ran away from home and went bush.
That Grandfathers father went to WW1, before he get deployed he spent time in military prison. Hard to read the writing but I think it was mainly for not coming back from leave on time. He must have been on the run for a while before he gave himself up.

A distant ish cousin of mine married someone 40years younger than them....
Also he was 82, and she was 40, plus to add to the fun his oldest son is older than her.....🤦♀️🤦🏻♂️
AND he died within 7 months -

I think "Unlawful Carnal Knowledge" was the term used for under-age sex rather than rape or sexual assault. It was quite common in the 60's where a girl got pregnant under 16. Think things got a little more enlightened in latter decades.

Another story of broken people. My grandfather was stationed with the Maori battalion in Egypt WW2. He fathered a couple of kids from different women prior to leaving WB I h we found out 3 years ago While in Egypt he went awol twice. He was a bit of a womanizer. Perhaps through DNA we will find a distant relative in the future from that area of the world. He died 5 months later in Italy
Not a skeleton, but my ex-FiL, an ex-REME WO in his 70's, showed me a photo of some mean hombres in the desert from his time in the Army. They were SAS in Oman and he commanded the detachment doing their transport and logistics. Not something he felt able to talk about until he was quite old.

My mother was always a little strange and had a weird attitude on religion and race - very much a religious bigot but incredibly enlightened on race and mental health issues. We all suspected she'd had some traumatic event in her life.
We've never been able to get the full story, but it appears she had a mental breakdown from getting pregnant in her unmarried late teens (poss. a non-white bloke) and her uber-religious family generally fucking up her life.

I think it was that Wyman became step grandad to his ex wife, his ex wife’s step son became her stepdad and Wyman became stepdad to his ex mother in law.
