My sister sent me some similar pics the other day - the damn on our land overflowed and flooded the road. The regional council guy who locks the gate to the beach stopped to have a look and the flooding engulfed his car.

I was worried we'd be on the hook for the damage to the car but apparently we're all good.

Shit, Auckland is getting a hammering:

They've declared a state of emergency now. Been absolutely tipping down all day, then got even heavier this evening. Feel for those whose houses etc are getting flooded, not fun at all.

Wet, but OK thankfully. Some massive damage out there. Wettest day on record for Auckland by the sound of it

It was weird having a lovely dinner out in Auckland last night with all that happening around.

Lucky we had Elton tickets for tonight not last night. It won’t husky surprise me if it is canned though.

Apparently 3 people have died, 1 other reported missing.

This is gonna be a big one for insurers, don't expect this will be good for trying to keep inflation down.

    Where'd this event spring from?

    Ex-TC?

Was it the rain event we had a week or so ago, or another tropical fuck up recently?

Hope all northern North Island Ferners are OK.

@booboo just a long stream of shitty weather tracking down from the tropics.

There had been a system by Vanuatu they had said was primed to become a cyclone, but didn't.

The updated forecast for the next 24 isn't quite as bad as it was last night, so hope it is losing power and will just pass off into the vast pacific.

Sadly this is what tomorrow morning looks like

@taniwharugby shit!! It is crazy how fast the weather systems spin up and how little notice we are getting before they hit. Hope you guys in the north are staying as safe as possible.

I hope all that rain north of Northland doesn't make landfall and moves east, quickly (missing Tonga as well).

yeah we are on a red alert from tomorrow morning...yay.

We actually have had more rain in the last 24 hours than we got Friday/Saturday at our place, and oddly there isnt alot of water sitting about in places it usually sits, despite how wet the past few weeks have been

I'm not so much concerned for us, but people know, clients, I know people get quite anxious with heavy rain now after the flooding in 2020 or any other time, will be quite anxious and scared now, not to mention what those in Auckland right now are going through and thise in the Coromandel who alwaysnget hit with more rain on the way too

@taniwharugby Hopefully we all get off lightly on this one.

Fridays deluge in Auckland was pretty bad. We were actually at the bach (coromandel) and didn’t get much weather at all in comparison that day. Then the Neighbours got in touch with us worried about our place as they were taking in water too. Had a mate come over to check and yep, a fair bit of water through our lower level but nothing we can’t fix and insurance will cover it.

Getting home was also a challenge though with various slips and floodings. Ended up going via waihi so any extra 90mins but glad we did as wouldn’t have been able to yesterday as things deteriorated across coromandel

Let’s now see what the next 48 hours brings…

we've just received a state of emergency alert...the rainfall in the past 10 hours since we have been under a red alert has been negligible, and even looking on Metservice website, predicted rainfall for the next 10 hours is dropping on what was predicted 24/12/6 hours ago, hopefully that continues and it turns out to be just 'normal' rain...🤞
