10 years since I was last home. Just touched down at Auckland from LA. Pilot did a first class job. But honestly was not too bumpy. Knew I was on an Air NZ flight when the air hostess said the flight was chocka 🙂

    Welcome home!

@Tim My sister was scheduled to fly out of Auckland yesterday but the flight was cancelled.

Hadn't seen her for 4 years due to covid and after all this time there's a certain irony that she's now trapped in NZ due to the weather.

Apparent temperature is currently ~5° colder than it was at midnight.

Managed to scrape though the floods from the far North, currently evacuating everyone from Whangarei CBD, lots of water about

Does look pretty bad up there.

Our heavy rain in Auckland has yet to really arrive but will be here early this evening by the looks.

Coromandel is getting smash. Never seen Matarangi looking so wet. Heaps of wind and a decent storm surge too, so more beachfront erosion damage

@Machpants think that evac order was along with high tide, rain hasnt been heavy today, just steady, we've had c 200mm in 36 hours.

Winds died back most of today but I heard she is picking up, up north as the back end of Gabrielle swings by,

To make matters worse, power is off again, this time due to some fluffybunny speeding along a nearby road, hitting water and aquaplaning into a powerpole....so many outages around the place.

This all my fault. Work started full on on my relocated 1920s house two weeks ago. Look what the weather has done since.

As of this morning I have a relocated pile of rubble.

At least I didn't see it happen as we were in the dark. No power for 24 hours now.

Rains has got a heap heavier here in Takapuna (North Shore). Just cleared all the drains in the street, as heaps of debri, so hopefully the water drains away.

Powers out two streets away but still on here for now.

Power is also out at the bach which is getting pummelled but gee the surf looks good

Finally made it home, road to coast opened and the cherry on top was the power being restored. Showered, proper coffee, and yes I feel I deserve a beer @taniwharugby . And @Snowy man that sucks, were you getting rid of the house or buying it in?
