Rains has got a heap heavier here in Takapuna (North Shore). Just cleared all the drains in the street, as heaps of debri, so hopefully the water drains away.

Powers out two streets away but still on here for now.

Power is also out at the bach which is getting pummelled but gee the surf looks good

Finally made it home, road to coast opened and the cherry on top was the power being restored. Showered, proper coffee, and yes I feel I deserve a beer @taniwharugby . And @Snowy man that sucks, were you getting rid of the house or buying it in?

@taniwharugby I went out for a walk and ended up at the pub. Which was closed. I did find another bar and had one beer then headed home.

Was taking all my wet weather gear off on front porch when gust slammed door closed.

Of course, phone and keys were now on other side of door.

Of course, last tradie to use spare in lock box hadn't replaced it.

Of course, the taxi that I got neighbour's to call so I could go to partner's (didn't want her going out in now what was the height of the storm) went to Takapuna...

So, I taped up a panel on the front door. Smashed my way in. Cleaned up the mess and dealt with the 7 missed calls and 15 texts from frantic partner.

Small in comparison to what so many are facing - but not my best Monday evening.

    Ughh that aint good mate!

We've made it through the night here at home without flooding this time so pretty stoked about that. Others near by dont sound so good. Still no power around most of our area. Rain has stopped but its the wind that will be slowing them down to fix it

As someone that has a history of locking themselves out and years of practice then breaking in (or squeezing through the dog door), forgive me if I chuckle at that one.

May I recommend the installation of a touchpad lock? It has been a game changer and made one little thing so much easier. The one I put in has been great for tradies and Real Estate agents to use as well. I can set temporary codes and see usage.

    Anyway, back to the weather.....

Is currently weirdly calm with only soft rain in the Hutt. So very strange to have such extreme weather battering almost everyone but Welly region not overly affected (yet). Shit weather is the norm in these parts.

Kia kaha to all those affected and I hope you come out of this with bodies and minds intact.

endorsing this. We have a mechanical code lock, and it is simply awesome. No more lockouts, key issues, etc - just easy to use and you can share codes as needed.
