    @MN5 Rossington's riff made that cover the definitive version of a southern rock classic. So different from the original.

    Clapton of all people did a good cover as well

    JJ Cale must have made a fortune off Eric

    But yeah, I love Skynyrds version so much.

    @Victor-Meldrew

    The Cloggies was brilliant. Some great sideshow characters. The Blagdon Amateur Rapist might not pass muster these days though.

    RIP Bobby Caldwell, you were so smooth and soulful that your record label wouldn't let you pose on your record covers, because everyone though you were black.

    Dick Fosbury had the jump on everyone at the Summer Olympics and they were still trying to catch up to him in the Fall.

    Ken Buchanan, former world lightweight boxing champion, dies aged 77

    Ken Buchanan, former world lightweight boxing champion, dies aged 77

    Ken Buchanan, who became the undisputed world lightweight champion in 1971, finished his career with a 61-8 win-loss record

    I read his book while house sitting in the UK.

    Had a pretty tough time of it like so many former fighters by the sounds of things. He was also very bitter about Roberto Duran and the low blows too by the sounds of things.

    Gotta love a man who fights in tartan shorts though. RIP Ken.

    @MN5

    Yeah , his losing the title to Duran was controversial. I don’t know that Buchanan would necessarily have won but a few low blows from Duran, one blatantly after the bell made things certain.

    Total musical genius who not only bridged Classical and modern music but also across two musical cultures, Western and Eastern. His soundtrack for Merry Christmas Mr Lawrence is one of my favourite pieces of music
