Controversy to finish too.

The 3 hole play-off was pretty much decided by a two stroke penalty for grounding of club in hazard. She didn't realise she had and they told her the next hole.

I can see why she didn't realise she had grounded her club too. I think one grain of sand was touched....
-

I hate that rule too, cant see the point of it TBH, given if you ground your club too heavily the ball will move anyway, I don't really see any benefit if you are allowed to ground your club (hazard I can understand as often you might have a foot of some kind of grass/brush or something, and grounding your club can help clear some of it)

-

In this case, the hazard was a bunker and if you ground your club properly it creates a tee-like effect in the sand to help launch your ball so I can see why the rull exists.

I have a mate that didn't ground his club but would remove sand on back swing creating the same effect. It took a long time to convince him that he was to be penalised
-

yeah I don't entirely agree, I mean you get people on fairways/rough that will ground the ball enough to give them the same sort of advantage when pressing down the dirt/grass behind the ball, similarly, sand, you still need to strike it correctly, and again if you ground it with the intention of making a 'tee' there is a chance the ball will move anyway (I am talking the vast majority of golfers here, not pros)

You could argue though that that is a fair advantage given for not hitting it into a hazard.
-

just my opinion, plus grounding a club aint gonna help jack with a ball poached in a bunker...

bunkers arent really hazards in that sense IMO, some courses they are a bailout option, not to mention some courses have grass 'bunkers' where you are allowed to ground the club, and again, I dont think it would make any difference to your shot selection or execution if you grounded it or not form a bunker...
-

she started the day behind the leader too didn't she, although had a lead after 9?

So Lydia Ko has now parted ways with the David Leadbetter Academy, only weeks after ditching her caddie of the back of a pretty poor (by her standards) 3 or 4 months.
Leadbetter was interviewed on RS yesterday, and he says her parents are having a bigger input than he thinks is necessary, down to her dad given her swing advice recently as well.
Like everything, there will be his version, her version, her parents version and then the truth will be a mix...?

@taniwharugby how many golfers have fallen out with leadbetter over the years?
-
@dogmeat my understanding was one of his team in his academy was the main coach, but ultimately it sits under his 'brand'
I agree to a point with what you are saying, but with that, her caddie changes, the 'fallout' with Guy Wilson, it does seem external pressures too, and TBH, if her dad is trying to give her technical advice on her swing, while being coached by someone, that is always going to cause issues.
Have you listened to the interview, it sounds like he is pretty gutted about it, and feels that Lydia is doing far too much, and is getting fatigued.
That said, as above, there is his side, and there will be the other version.
