I think he did alright, did we really need an oscar winning turn from what was basically a smallish role ? he was pretty hilarious when Landa was talking to him in italian. There were lots of lesser characters like this which was part of its charm, the hardass german officer who took his execution like a man, the german speaking posh english officer, the french farmer at the start.....<br />

Oh and I thought the film as a whole was fucken outstanding. -

I'm going against the grain here and expressing my disappointment in the Hurt Locker. <br />
It wasn't that it was a bad film - it just didn't live up to the hype for me. I've been hearing how good it is and how it's making critics lists for the year but it just didn't seem that good to me.<br />
Maybe I'm unfairly comparing it to Generation Kill. Then again Munter lists Full Metal Jacket as one of his best war films and I don't rate it highly (good film yes, great, no).<br />

The sniper scene was pretty awesome, and I quite liked the cameos - although you kind of knew what would happen to those characters.<br />

I thought that Anthony Mackie(the black guy) was far better than the main guy who strayed into caricature for me.<br />

Re: Inglorious Basterds - I thought it was great, the film of last year for me, the only annoying thing was that when I watched it in the theatre the guy next to me was eating cooked pasta (that stunk) with his hands and wouldn't leave when everyone surrounding him asked him to. -

Not unique, just an opinion (I'm not going to like something just because others do) - Rotten Tomatoes isn't the be all and end all - it's just a collection of critics (I think I've already said on here how I used to read the critics in London and then do the opposite). I think this year all the critics have deemed The Hurt Locker worthy. Anyway, I didn't say it was bad, it wasn't as good as those critics made out. I may have had a higher opinion of it if I'd seen it blind without reading the hype, or if I hadn't watched Generation Kill. -

Full Metal Jacket is a massive film IMO. If not for any other than R. Lee Ermey's drill instructor. -
Lost the child to the grandparents for the night and saw Holmes. Bit of fun but didn't quite hit the mark - felt the story didn't flow very well and just when i thought the action and adventure would get going there was a scene where Holmes would pause to figure something out the story would lose momentum - 6.5/10

Watched Adam Sandlers 'Eight Crazy Nights'.<br />
An animated musical, with Sandler as the lead voicing a troublemaker over Christmas.<br />

Typical Sandler fare, so if you're a fan - you'll like this!<br />
Haven't heard of it before - but it was on TV over the Xmas break. DVR'ed it and finally got around to watching it. -

Yes - Flags Of Our Fathers. Was directed by Clint also. But I think it was more about the controversy over/after the raising of the flag by the US troops on Iwo Jima. A bunch of it was based back in the US after the war. -
ah yeah I recall it now, but isnt there still some scenes that tie the 2 movies together still? <br />

watched Sherlock Holmes last night. Had quite low expectations of it, so perhaps as a result quite enjoyed it. Though the flashbacks did take a bit of getting used to. I did like Robert Downey Jr. as Holmes though, his wit came across quite well to me.<br />

Also got Public Enemies out on Blu-Ray the other day. I also quite enjoyed that. Wasn't amazing but certainly kept my interest. Random acts of violence and some sort of storyline seem to got OK in this film. -
Watched Crank High Voltage and oh my goodness what a dreadful movie. So bad that it is a must watch. Everyone should watch this movie! I swear. So bad that it's a laugh out loud movie.<br />

Also watched something with Ricky Gervais and how he can see ghosts. I find Gervais type humour rather funny so I really enjoyed the movie. He's not the worst actor in the world for a comedian, in my opinion -

Couldn't agree more. Heard it was pretty bad before I got around to watch it but it turned out even worse than I thought. They managed to set aside everything that is great about 50s sci-fi and today's blockbusters, kept what was left and made a movie with it. Quite an achievement when you think about it. Just the fact the famous Klatuu line wasn't originally supposed to be in the movie and that Keanu Reeves had to convince the director to include in the script says it all.<br />

I thought War of the Worlds was a bit disappointing as well but it wasn't nearly as terrible as TDTESS. -

I think the television networks have bought a budget-box of Adam Sandler movies. There's been a couple shown already and there are several to be played in the coming week (for those who like his movies). -

I saw Sherlock Holmes last night as well, took me awhile to get into it but well worth it. Some superb banter between RDJ and JL. A good charasmatic badguy as well and great to see the return of the Indestructible henchman usually seen in James Bond or Indiana Jones. This guy was a beauty, a massive scarred frenchman. Apparently the tower of london CGI was on the wrong side ? if so I never noticed despite having lived there. A really good silly action movie though, pretty damn enjoyable.
