I actually had a hard time understanding Downey in Sherlock Holmes. He spoke both softly, and rather quickly with his British accent. I found it hard to follow. Normally I don't have that sort of problem with other British accents and films (ie Snatch, Lock Stock, and two Smoking Barrels etc). Coincidentally, the only other person in my lab at work who saw Sherlock Holmes had the same complaint. Holmes was a little too Jason Bournesque for my liking. -

I understood him fine and apparently this is a great rendering of his character ( ie druggie who was handy with his fists etc ). In the orginal novels he is a bit of an action man ( not that I've ever read them ) -
Maybe the Kiwi ear is more attune to the (faux) Pommy accent? Never read the books either. [Geek] My prior exposure to Sherlock Holmes is colored by Star Trek TNG, where Data played Holmes, and Geordi La Forge Dr. Watson. [/Geek]

Quite possibly cos I honestly had no trouble at all. Having lived in London and having a British father ( he is Scottish though, not English lets just get that straight ) may have helped as well. -
Saw a pretty decent thriller last night "The Perfect Getaway"<br />

Couple goes to Oahu for their honeymoon they meet another couple in the middle of nowhere and then learn there are murderers on the loose. A nice twist which I kinda saw coming ( but still well done ) and some great scenery. Definitely worth a coupe of hours of your time. -

Got told the ending as I was paying for this at the dvd store. I'd been in the store for a good hour trying to find something I hadn't seen and something the wife would like. Screaming son in hand finally go to leave and some guy wanders in and turns to his mate "thats a great movie [ending spoiled] happens in the end" If I was ever going to go to jail it was for beating ten colours of shit out of this loser....but alas I grabbed The Reader instead,which was good in a depressing Schindlers List/English Patient type way. -

Watched a couple of light hearted movies last weekend with the mrs.<br />
The Water Horse, must have been filmed in NZ given the number of supporting roles filled by recognizable Kiwi faces. A good family flick (watched by us who are yet to be a family!).7/10<br />

The other was The Wedding Daze, with Mrs Borat Isla Fisher and a guy i havent seen for a while Jason Biggs (premature ejaculater from American Pie)<br />
Not bad, typical of comedies these days where they try to make the supporting characters as quirky and weird as possible. In this case Biggs parents have some strange sex fetishes. 7/10 -

Yeah American Pie was right on the button when they realised Stifler was a million times funnier than the lead characters and wisely gave him much more screen time in the sequels. The movies were still a bit hit or miss though and the music was horrific. -
watched Sherlock Holmes, really liked it, didnt have any issues understanding him (aside form one scene at the end, but he was talking fast and low to himself) so Rusty, must just be you South Afrimerican ears! <br />

I did like the way it showed how he deduced everythign, rather than the assumption he picked up on all the little things, which he obviously makes a point of in the film too. -
Law Abiding Citizen; Jamie Fox and Gerard Butler.<br />

NIce thriller with Butler as the husband of a murdered family who seeks his own justice when one of the alleged killers is given a plea bargain.<br />

Pretty good, but the ending kinda ruined it a bit as it appeared rushed and wasn't quite upto the rest of the film. 7.5/10 -
Case 39 - Renee Zellweger, Bradley Cooper. Horror/thriller where Zellweger is a Child Services agent and gets a file of a young girl she thinks is in danger from her parents 6.5/10<br />

Up - great film, enjoyable for me, the boy loves it, 8/10 -
Finally got to see Avatar. It's goood. I was a bit lukewarm at first, not sure I'd buy into the blue cat people thing but buy into it I did. Really enjoyed it. Can't wait for the sequel.

Should do the same with the same in the North American domestic one as well.<br />

Just watched Defiance . Based on a true story . Pretty friggen heroic stuff . Really enjoyed it . 8/10

Great movie - very stunning scenery all the way through it.<br />
Story is pretty good as well.<br />

Went to see it in 3D, didn't see the IMAX. IMAX theaters are solidly booked here - and have been since it opened. You need to book ahead for that. I thought the 3D effects were subtle as well. They added to the picture, rather than being a distraction.<br />

Took my kids to it - my son loved it, he's 9. Daughter who's 6 was surprisingly good at the movies. For a 2 1/2 hour movie - I thought she's be fussing up a storm by about half way - but she was pretty interested as well. -

Yeah I watched that last night, different type of film, almost a documentary following the main characters around for the remainder of thier rotation, with little story running through, still thought it was a top film though.<br />

The 3 'stars' of the film (Guy Pearce, Ralph Feinnes, Evangeline Lily) all have minute parts.
