Scooter’s clean out had no influence on the outcome of that breakdown

    None of that is illegal.

@pakman Lineouts too. You're generally going to struggle going into a match with four opensized flankers. Reminds me of the JC, RM, RS (which as a unit was far superior to what we have now) days when the AB's lineout was often second best.

Some real dud selections in this squad. Williams and Newell are nowhere near ready for test rugby, Vaa'i has no physical impact, and Jacobson is a converted seven who is absolutely lost at test level. Then there is the thoroughly unathletic Lienert-Brown.

France will destroy that forward pack.

De Groot is back to slow and ponderous.

Ryan needs to open both eyes.

At least papalii is there to lead the resistance 😉

Will be interesting to see if the yellow is rescinded if there was no illegal contact.

    No attempt to bind
    Off feet

Yes I know it goes on at nearly every ruck but it's still against the laws

Already on a YC and right in front of the ref is some real dumb shit

So I'll change my view to 3 on the clumsy / dumb side of the scale

@MiketheSnow Did you watch the show? They showed two clean outs to the heads of All Blacks. Scott’s was to the right of the ball, and yes worthy of a penalty, but not to head. Your dirt rating assumes intent which is just speculation.

Two things I thought at the game
Can't blame AB backs at all, AB forwards were destroyed
Missing McCaw leadership. Roigard brought it funnily enough. Focused. Gave me heart

And Carter’s sweeping left boot, and Nonu’s ball carrying, and Read’s running with reckless abandon, and Kaino’s breakdown work, and Owen Franks scrum and clean outs, and Bender’s jinky runs …

    and Conrad’s coolness

Watching the Breakdown. Jeff Wilson is spot on re Scott Barrett. Cleanout to shoulder. Lots of other clean outs similar. Should not have been a yellow.

On the clumsy to filth scale where clumsy is 1 and filth is 10 this rates between 6 and 7 for me and deservedly merited a YC

I don’t mind the fact that someone in our team felt compelled to whack Marx, even if it was a bit of a cheap shot - but it was just on the wrong side of the line between enforcement and grubbery given Marx was prone - if he’d done something similar while Marx was standing in the ruck we’d all be applauding it

Just a question on lineouts and mauls where we hit pinged for being early about 4 or 5 times. Can the attacking team bind before their player in the air lands? Seems like everyone starts early.

I don't believe so. ABs were pinged three times in a row for binding early. First two they did so, but Cane argued, probably correctly, that Boks were taking jumper down on top of them, in which penalty for jumping across the line. Third penalty was absolutely marginal, but by then think Carley thought ABs were taking mickey and started to see things.

And scrum penalty when five yards from our line was also dodgy. Would be interested in what @NTA thought, but to me Malherbe driving up and slightly in, EDG digs in and shoves back, getting under FM's ribs. He has to step back to regain balance and takes scrum down, and EDG with him. A relieving penalty then might well have altered the card dynamic.

Bloody difficult real time but clear on replay.

So two of first six or seven penalties bogus.

Which means Scooter's overbalance (he lifted his hands up to avoid Faf), which arguably wasn't even a penalty, most certainly oughtn't have been yellow.

AB pack at full complement actually withstood everything Boks threw at them, and Big Sam even stole a lineout.

    Yeah was second time

Frans dropped the second scrum after EDG got under him.

He got tackled into the halfback by a Bok. Argue the Bok was offside when he did it.

Seems like the attacking team rarely gets penalised at lineouts.

Pretty classic Foster result, the thing is we used to find a way to win our bad games. Now we just suffer a series of historic losses.

A lot of "all time greats" looking very creaky.

What absolute nonsense. It was a clear Yellow Card. Jeff Wilson has become the king of defending the indefensible.

Clever how EE helped him take Faf out
