Not for me. I understand the thinking and decision

Really though? What is the actual defensive edge he has, any idea? It's been said a lot, but there hasn't been any substance put to it.

Hilariously bad selections. Slow unproven winger, inexperienced props, the wrong 9 on the bench.

Man Foster is hard to like.

At least they didn’t pick Blackadder

Like most, my first reaction is why TF Christie is there over Roigard. Absolutely baffling.

Looking at it overall, it's the best 23 aside from that one glaring selection (and Telea being unavailable).

My concern though is the starting props haven't had a lot of recent game time. They're our best, no doubt, but that is a worry.

I must admit I would go for Roigard, but I think (well and Foster says it) Christie is considered a better defender, which is hard to argue with or against as I haven't really taken a lot of notice, and with Irish you will see that Gibson-Parkes does cause problems for teams in and around breakdowns.

Christie will be 95% matching up against Murray, not JGP. They play quite differently.

I can accept the props, I can accept the winger (this is stupid) but the non selection of Roigard is on a par with the forever non selection of JB at 12.

They want to make it fair for the Irish I guess

Not many disappointed that Taukei'aho missed out then. I know his form has slipped a bit, but do you think he missed out because he’s the weaker line out thrower?

I’m still surprised he didn’t make the bench at least.

Wow, Foster has knocked it out of the park this time. What an absolute muppet.

Schmidt must have had an input into the 9. He coached Christie with the Blues, so maybe he swayed Foster 😬

Yes, it would be good to know how much influence the assistant coaches have in the final selections. Ryan has rolled the dice with the young props while Schmidt has gone all conservative.

Schmidt clearly has a lot of faith in him. Christie was on the bench for the first Irish test in '22 which we won 42-19. Foster was out ill for the 1st Test against Ireland in '22 and Schmidt was in charge which is why we won according to Fern logic,

Clearly Schmidt knows what he is doing when playing Ireland and Christie is the clear and obvious choice if we are to win.

Of course, Fern logic could be bollocks....

@pakman not creating an account. Does he actually say that?

“We believe in what we stand for and that speaks volumes for the team that we make that sort of decision in this sort of week.”

If I want a role model in clean living and the highest standards of human behaviour, I'm not going to go looking in a fucking rugby team. Their job is to play rugby and win, and a lot of these guys seem to not even know the history they're fucking up - now they're patting themselves on the back for not prioritising winning? Because delivering a slap on the wrist to someone for having a couple of beers when they weren't meant to means more than that?
He's fucking right it speaks volumes.

I'm fucked off about that, and the way he's been messed around last year and this year is really just shit poor management of the highest order.
Clearly he should be there, but Taylor and Coles are both still pretty good players.

You'd probably have to ask Schmidt. Clearly sees something in Christie we don't see. Mind you, he was the one who coached the AB's to the last win over Ireland when Foster was ill and had Christie on the bench so he clearly knows what he is doing......

Love waking up to a “horses for courses” selection for a knockout RWC game. Fozzie taking learnings from Steve dropping Cane last time, that played out well

Called in to see the team and noticed the comments re Barnes earlier in the thread. It is worth pointing out to those that don't mind him, or think that we should get over Cardiff, we have our highest number of losses under him than any other ref in AB history (I saw that somewhere). It's not just the number of losses but the percentage (he has reffed us a lot). So we have reason to be wary of him other than one match that he completely ballsed up. France also didn't outplay us in that match @NTA Barnes choked and I don't trust him not to do it again in front of thousands of screaming Irish fans, just like he did at Cardiff in front of thousands of French fans (it was deafening in that stadium).

    Like:
Predictable starting side with one glaring exception
    Young props
Coles for the lols when he's winding up the paddies late on (if it's close or we're in front how often do you reckon he'll bring up QF demons?)
DMac forcing his way to the bench

    Dislikes
The realisation of no ST for real punch
Picking the worst AB halfback in recent memory off the bench
Dropping Telea for a fucking tugboat on the wing. The Irish are too experienced and too smart to not make hay there

Why must we constantly be disappointed by these fucking selectors?

@Snowy there was a sizeable Irish fan contingent in Cardiff that day as they had banked on Ireland getting there as runners up in the pool. Alas, they choked that year, finishing 3rd behind Argentina and France.

They were singing “Allez les bleus” with gusto!

If we were up when coles comes onto the field ,

He would be the one guy who would be very good at reminding of their 1/4 final exit history 😄

If they were worried about Roigards defense, then don't pick Christie - take a leaf from the Yarpies, and pick another loose forward to cover that role - I'm sure that anyone of them would be as good from the back of the ruck as Christie

That only works on teams with history and expectation

"36 more years" doesn't really have the same ring to it
