NZ's seventh successive Semi-final apparently, and one win away from our third successive Final.
Unfortunately I can't shake the feeling we're the Argentina of this group of Semi-finalists.
Seems there's not much in the way of weakness in that Indian team, but they're not unbeatable.

Who's in? Who's out? What's this pitch like? Do we need extra spin option? Or Thestick with three seamers?

Not always necessary. I seem to recall we lost recently after scoring 200 more runs than the opposition.

To elaborate more…..runs shouldn’t be an issue. It’s our popgun pie chucking bowlers that concern me
Tha Pakistan game is exhibit A. Our batsmen must get pretty pissed off after a game like that
Yeah true, Journeymen can only journey so far ( notwithstanding some top efforts vs Sri Lanka )
NZ has guys that are a bit past it or never there in the first place. The Indian batsmen will be licking their lips.

We’ve had someone timed out in this World Cup so we could always have someone do a Maradona and get out handled the ball I guess.

Pleased we got India. Even if we can't win the whole thing, knocking India out would be down right hilarious. We have nothing to lose, just like the ABs against Ireland..

The theory of this tournament has been to bat first, put a huge total on the board and watch the batting side collapse under the pressure.
Until unfortunately we played Pakistan...
I still however think it's the right way to go, pressure has much more dramatic effects on a batting team than a bowling one (and by that I mean you make one mistake as a batsman and your out, whereas a bowler you go for 4/6).
Wont be the end of the world if we bowl first as our batsmen are in much better form than our bowling attack. Though I would say to win a chase we will need some luck or some bad Indian fielding

Still think that we could have won that if weather hadn't intervened. They needed 200 at a good clip.
We royally fucked it up against SA by choosing to chase as well (and SA are shit at chasing, so who knows why Latham did that).
Conversely, we probably would have run down the Aussies if Henry hadn't given them a 14 run head start (off zero balls effectively) by not knowing how long a cricket pitch is. One no ball I might have forgiven (even for seven runs) but 2 consecutively FFS. We lost by 5. Thanks Matt.
There was a stat a week or two back that 70% of WC games this year had been won by the team that lost the toss. So losing the toss is a good start to winning. That might have been when they were all paranoid about dew that wasn't going to happen and bowling first though.
Upshot of all that? No idea.

Worse we dropped 3 catches in the last 10 overs that cost us at least 30 runs.
you can not win any game dropping set batsmen in the last 10 overs. -
I think we are in with a great chance. That's NZ's best top order that we've seen for some time, it only takes two of them to fire and we are in with a good shout of making a large total.
It's all really down to the performance of our bowlers. Bowl well against this in form Indian lineup, and we are definitely in the hunt.

That's a fair assessment. India is by some distance the best team at this World Cup.
But, the best team doesn't always win.
I wouldn't mind if they bat first because there's always the chance that they think they need to score more than they really do and push too hard. e.g. us vs Oz in 2015.
One small weakness is their success so far. Jadeja will bat at 7 for them and he's only faced 96 balls in this whole Cup - and the four guys below him have collectively only faced 49 balls. So IF we can make inroads on their top order, their lower order might fall over for us.

The 6th out the last 7 tournaments would have been South Africa 2003, and didn't we miss the semis because we didn't go to Nairobi?

It really is. We don’t even miss Rossco, outstanding player that he was.

Whilst our top order has in form and quality batsmen, this Indian ODI bowling lineup is about as good as I’ve seen from any Indian team in my lifetime. Good mix of pace, spin and slower ball bowling.
Big challenge for our top order.

Thanks to Dennis Lille and then Craig McDermott having pace bowling academies in 4 main cities for a number of years,
Craig still brings some young quicks over to play in the club system.
Last season we had a 6ft8 young quick for 3 months he was clocking about 145ks but is was the bounce of a short length that was very hard to combat, -

Well as I said they are obsessed and spend a fucken fortune so they should be good.
I suppose being a big hostile fiery pace bowler doesn’t come naturally to a lot of diminutive Indians to be fair.

Yes the Sheffield Shield is weaker the Australian players don’t play in it anymore.
So that weakens it somewhat.There is a real fix here in identifying 13/14 years olds and sticking with them through the youth system,which means some potential players slip through the system and get picked up by AFL.
We had a young quick 5 years back who had massive potential was bowling quick for his age but could not break in to the Qld under age teams,he got frustrated after good performances and AFL grabbed him up on a $80,000 contract he now plays AFL for The Brisbane Lions,
I was one of the Qld u/19 coaches and still could not get him in to the system.
But in saying that the volume of cricketers playing in Australia they will always have a gun 30 odd to pick from.
