A solid effort from Netflix
Great cast, good acting, interesting storyline
3.5 Friends out of 5 foes
-
I've heard rave reviews from several people. Might be our pick for the Christmas Eve movies. Surprised its IMDB score is so low.

@MiketheSnow Slow to start with, but got better as it went. Cinematography was a bit irritating and needlessly showy/ clever. The consistent use of ominous music was irritating.
I get the feeling the deer were added just to ensure the audience were held in suspense but their inclusion and behaviour made little sense in the end. -

i saw a head line about a "huge plot hole everyone missed"....have saved it as want to see after we watch it....probably just clickbait

The interplay between the lead characters was good and the human side of the plot written and acted really well. Agree on the cinematography and the weird angles used though.
4 Family Weekends out of 5 Holidays from Hell
I thought the deer sequence might have been about humans coming together to support each other when in danger. It contrasted with the conversation between Ruth and Amanda on how terrible they thought humans really were. -
In the last week I've watched the previous four Indiana Jones movies in the lead up to seeing Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny for the first time tonight. The original three movies are still classics, and even Kingdom of the Crystal Skull was better than I remembered. I had forgotten that Pat Roach had multiple roles in the 1980s movies, even playing two different characters in Raiders of the Lost Ark.
The most recent instalment is definitely the weakest of the five, but was still a decent watch. No reason to watch it again though.
My ranking would be 1, 3, 2, 4, 5.

I’d reverse 4 and 5 but correct aside from that. Mutt just about makes the movie unwatchable. Fuck I hate that talentless fluffybunny who plays him.
The gulf between 1-3 and 4 and 5 is massive.
Pat Roach was the man, the scrap in Raiders of the Lost Ark is one of the best movie punch ups ever. Was hoping for something similar in the latest one with that giant baddie. Not to be.

If anyone is looking for a good (new) Christmas movie, The Holdovers is excellent.
Old school vibes, a sort of coming of age Christmas movie. Suggest you watch it without seeing the trailer.
Lasted 25 mins
Couldn't warm to any of them. Except the cook.
-
Heard that it's good. Planning on watching it soon.
If you're into fun Christmas movies I'd recommend A Christmas Horror Story. A series of Christmas horror tales woven together by William Shatner brilliantly playing an increasingly deranged radio host.

Took a big while to get going, I agree, but it really developed into something quirky and unusual. More a film set at Christmas than a Christmas film and we really enjoyed it.
Da'Vine Joy Randolph, who played the cook, was superb.

Given that the third one was no where near as good as the original I’m not holding out any hope whatsoever that this will be worth watching some 30 years later…….
When is Hollywood going to stop and think that rebooting 80s classics isn’t a good thing ?
It's lazy. Easier to reboot than come up with brand new ideas

@canefan ive said it so many time, especially when they talk about things like a female bond....if their story idea was god enough it wouldnt need to rely on being a bond film
and same here...if it was good enough they dont need to for it to be a beverly hills cop movie

I wonder if John Ashton and Ronny Cox will be back ( Judge Reinhold too )
I had to google the first two to make sure they were both alive actually.

I guess we gotta be happy that Eddie is not played by a white woman 🤣

Eddie played a white man in the 80s though. He was ahead of his time.
