@Nepia i saw some of the first reviews and things like rotten tomatoes and wondered if it was just being review bombed for someone reason
one thing i didn;t like about the review..they talk about how much it borrowed from other films....but then listed 7-8 very different films...i feel if you're going to look at that many films then of course you'll things
i know it started as a "star wars" proposal but its ended up as an "original" film rather than a sequel/prequel/reboot etc....and sad it might not be what we wanted

Given that the third one was no where near as good as the original I’m not holding out any hope whatsoever that this will be worth watching some 30 years later…….
When is Hollywood going to stop and think that rebooting 80s classics isn’t a good thing ?
Please just stop. Dammit Eddie. It's not like needs the cash.
Not so sure about that.

@NTA yeah that was my thinking too....
Like the scene with the lady by the roadside, when that happens in a movie/series, I usually think either what they say is irrelevant, or I'm supposed to be in the dark to what they are saying, as the character doesnt know what is being said (especially as I had subtitles on, and nothing came up)

I haven't read any specific reviews (I never like to before seeing movies) but they discussed it on some movie podcasts.
As is known I don't like Snyders films outside of 300 but I always hold out hope he makes a good one because he seems like a decent guy ... for a libertarian.
Maybe it's being reviewed bombed by all the man babies who pumped up Justice League but then got pissed off when he went on that podcast and basically told them he didn't like their toxic bullshit?

All the negative early reviews were from the critics not Nepias mates, which probably means it's a good film. Seems most critics had an axe to grind with Snyder. Not sure why. Ultimately his films look great but he can't write for shīt.

I really struggle watching Marky Mark. He’s a miserable, sour faced fluffybunny, even when he’s doing comedy.
His brother is a much better actor.

Yup
Lord of the Rings on stream the other night, I was hit by a sad realisation - we'll probably never see anything this good again. This was it - this was the peak of mainstream cinema.
I have the director's cut. Might have to set aside a whole day and watch it again
-
@canefan i watched the extended editions earlier in the year...still hold up, ive see movies in the last couple of years with much worse CGI
first 2/3 of the video 100% agree with...then he goes on a bit of a rant, watching rings of power currently and i think its biggest problem is just its not based on one cohesive story. I have more of a problem with the weird fluffy haired white elves than i do with black or asian ones. I feel grace, centuries old presence and etherealness (is that a word?) are more defining features of the elves than skin colour....and these elves have none of that
i also just have a problem with prequels....because we know how they end...in this case regardless of anything going on....we know sauron comes back and raises an army that we see "defeated" in the opening of the movies
-
@Kiwiwomble Yeah he does get a bit ranty, but I do get pissed off with changing shit in an attempt to be more 'progressive' rather than good story reasons
-
@Machpants and fair enough as ruining anything as good as LotR is a crime, i guess im a bit lucky as these things only bug me if they actually detract from the story rather than needing a good reason to change and i dont feel most of the diversity casting does that (for me, might do for others)...and definitely not compared to the actually story issues or how different characters are from the movies....maybe we'll see them change into the characters we know over the course of the series...but i doubt it

Think you answered your own question there.
The podcast I was listening to is mostly pro Snyder (Empire Magazine podcast) so no axe to grind from them.

Sounds like someone needs to watch The Other Guys again. Marky Mark was hilarious in that

Well I have read The History of Middle Earth, Silmarillion, etc so I get nerd-rage. But it was also an average as fcuk story with the black survival of the fittest hobbits, and whiny war goddess galadriel and then the rings just got made. Meh.

so have i and had a decent presence on a Tolkien/LotR forum back in the day....so i also challenge this guys comment about they were weren't complaints at the time, lots of fans had issues with different parts....they just generally accepted every decision jackson made was probably for the best in the end
I think if i want to see the true form....i re read the books

Totally, there is a ton of bullshit that the right wing/anti woke brigade made up. But it was still a shit series, and it made me sad. At least I went in with low expectations and they were met. As to LotR part of the awesomeness of it was that this was nerdiness coming mainstream!
