My washing machine shat itself yesterday. So resigned myself to getting a front loader as they're more water and electricity efficient apparently, but my washing cupboard is too small for any of them. To get a similarly efficient top loader the price tends to double for similar stats.

I'm grumpy both for the fact I have to shop and the fact I've got to figure out how the fuck to get my current machine out of the cupboard - as I have no idea how I got it in.

Mate go to a shop that does free dilvery, and they take away old one. Just point at cupboard and tell them to take it away!

These two were less handy than me. In the end they just left the machine and said they'd come pick up the old one next week. In the end it took me about 3 minutes to take the door off (and bloody 20 to put it back on) so they could have waited.

Then they* tried to charge me another $40 to come back and pick up the machine, so I kicked up a stink grumpy old man style and the lady booked the pick up for Wednesday.

*The company, not the delivery guys, aside from being useless at removing doors they were good blokes, a young Maori guy and a young Arab guy (who could have both passed for Maori or Arab).

Hope you didn’t buy from the Good Guys mate - because I had exactly this a year ago, they left the old machine and never came back to get it. A year later and it’s still under my stairs and they won’t pick up my calls.

Was Bing Lee, hopefully they're better than The Good Guys.

Grumpy: hospital visit on Christmas night.

Left eye started to go a bit funny on Friday morning. CT scan and optical scan at the local emergency centre showed nothing out of the ordinary. Saturday/Sunday similar sensation; slight ache. Feeling weird like something wasn't quite right with the old peeper

Woke up this morning, left eye running about 60-70% of vision. Like if you were wearing sunglasses on only one side.

So here I am, waiting in emergency at 1am boxing day, to see if they can pin down the cause before it gets any worse.

    Getting old fucking sucks.

Nothing immediately related to death. Back this morning to see what the specialist says.

Sure it was a 5 hour wait but it was a public holiday into another public holiday while people were dying in other rooms.

    Can't complain too much

Fuck me NZ TV is disgraceful. Dire, vapid reality shows on every fucking channel. How the fuck have I switched to the Crime & Investigation channel to be greeted by "Hoarders".

Optic neuritis - inflammation of the optic nerve. Explains the vision issue in the left eye. Everything else structural inside the orb itself is fine.

Three days of IV steroids with first dose administered in ED. Should sort it out.

Bigger issue: it's most commonly associated with MS. 😐 So here's hoping, based on the sudden onset, it isn't that.

You're upset because the hoarding wasn't about sheep-porn?

Optic neuropathy is caused by damage to the optic nerve, and this can be from a range of factors, including infections (e.g. toxoplasmosis, herpes simplex), inflammatory diseases, neurological disorders, certain medication, dietary deficiencies and toxins (e.g. methanol, alcohol, tobacco).

When you've had a large Christmas dinner, some good Pinot and you fall into a deep, satisfying sleep on the sofa. And some arsehole keep waking you up.

Assume it’s your own arsehole? Just get up and have a dump. It’s better in the long run.

Tech platforms that do updates that make the user experience worse. For example:

Teams: After the update to the new improved Teams 2.0 you hit refresh on the Chat tab it now defaults to the Teams tab. Other than that I can't really see what's different for it to be improved.

Youtube: YT did an update which moved the History and Playlist from easy to navigate one page lists to two separate pages of large icons.

Prime: They updated their interface and it's now almost impossible to find anything new to watch unless you specifically look for it.

Apple: I know that Apple would have done something stupid recently, but I can't remember off the top of my head.

People who tell you authoritatively that vinyl sounds better and is more faithful than digital as "it captures all the sound unlike digital which doesn't as it has gaps".

No it doesn't. It might if you had ears with a frequency range 5 times that of a cat or dog- but you don't.
