I guess the lineout could be a concern.

    Scotty and either Pat/Va'ai

then a back three of Ardie+his hair, DP and Ethan.

That is an invitation to attack our lineout. Codie's the best thrower of our three hookers, but the whole lineout looks a bit short.

Ardie doesn't attack the rucks that much, so relies on a hard working, effective 6 and 7s so he can perform. DP has that covered at 7, but while EB is busy, he's not very effective. So if he starts, not only does our lineout suffer, it will drag Ardie into the rucks to compensate and blunt his point of difference.

Another season of an unbalanced backrow probably.

A shortish lineout is okay providing the lifting and timing is good.

At around 25 minutes, Robertson reitertates why he didn't pick Sotutu.
They seem to have doubts around his physicality in defense, tackling for long periods of time, and workrate off the ball.

"Jacobson, like Blackadder, can play all three positions in the back row but when it comes to rugged, all-out venom in defence he is shaded by Blackadder."

Venom? Does EB bite them or spit on them? Or maybe he has a fetching, wall-climbing costume?

I've never ever ever ever ever (saying it as Andre 3000 from Outkast in my head) thought of Blackadder as a rugged all out venom defender.

If you asked me which loose forwards are punishing hitters Blackadder would never have had entered my thought process.

Do even the Cantabs on here think that's one of his strengths?

amazing how well the Blues forwards did then given they only selected Paps (in the loosies). (My opinion, Hoskins and Dalton shared some 7/8 roles).
And this Ardie Savea bloke, sounds like great captain material?!

@mariner4life its a third of what Otago "needs"...but this is NZ...so we have a stadium that can hold a quarter of the cities population

I'm no Cantab, but I think he's got some good attributes, one of which is hitting reasonably hard. Not in the same way as Cane/Jacobson who are crunchers. He's quick off the deck and very good at maintaining a defensive line. Also throws himself at the line far harder than those guys. Sjhouldn't be selected off fuck-all rugby, but I can see the reasons.
Jacobson is a tackler, like Cane - but gives away a lot of penalties, and like Cane offers little ball in hand.

On Sotutu, I am kinda sick of people saying "both sides of the ball" to criticise him. If they really mean both sides, then how about criticising, i dunno, everyone fucking else for not being able to do what he does on the attacking side of the ball?

Reminds me of when Egghead tried to explain how Christian Cullen didn't run with the ball in his hands in the correct grip 🙄
