Pfft...far more scarier movie then The Howling, is 'An American Werewolf in London'.<br />
<br />
Brilliant movie and as a 12 year it scared the shit out me...still does when i re-watch it!
<br />
<br />
I concur. When they are walking through the english country side at night in the beginning and the brilliant FX when changing into the Werewolf are highlights. -
Unthinkable; Samuel L Jackson, Carrie Moss. <br />
<br />
Based around Jackson who is some super top secret fella that is the best at extracting information from people. <br />
<br />
Story is a bit blah, I think they get tied up in the moral issue of a fella's human rights vs those of the millions he could potentially kill<br />

6/10 -
watched a few oldies again on the weekend.<br />
<br />
The Goonies - excellent Kids movie, originally 1985, definately stood the test of time<br />
The Labyrinth - another great Kids movie, 1986<br />
Last Actrion Hero - good cheesy Arnie action flick, 1993 (great soundtrack too) -

Ha ha. Watched The Goonies this weekend as well. One of the HD cable channels was showing it as a 25th year special. I caught it as it started, and watched through. Probably the first time I have seen it in over 15 years. Was still a fun watch. -

The best thing about The Goonies is the kids get to be kids. Like it or not 12-13 year olds swear and make jokes about sex they haven't had yet. Kids make fun of the fat kid, PC be damned. -
Watched John Travolta and Robin Williams in Old Dogs on the weekend . Just drifted a bit at times but the funny bits were really funny . Very watchable 7/10.

That is one of the movies my sixteen year old autistic son watches . He has seen it at least 30 times and still loves it as much as he did the first time . -

The director of the film gave me tickets to the premiere. I was working a summer as a courier for Federal Express, and had the Sutton Place Hotel in Toronto on my beat. Every day during the Toronto International Film Festival I had to deliver & pickup silly novelty joke items and scripts to "Meat-Head," and he was kind enough to give me the passes, and in fact was a really, really nice guy. I'll never forget the red carpet at the Ryerson Theatre, with Andre the Giant unfurling himself from the limousine. I don't know whether it was a publicity stunt, but Reiner told me they had to remove a seat from the limo to squeeze Andre in. I also got to meet the writer, William Goldman, who also scripted Butch Cassidy, Marathon Man and All the President's Men. Another really good guy with his feet on the ground, even teased me about my kiwi accent. -

I love that movie. Your son has impeccable taste so far! Funny though as my daughter doesn't (like it). She doesn't quite get the subtle humour yet I think. I have it safely tucked away with the other movies of my youth so she'll learn to appreciate it...<br />
<br />
Though to be honest I think I'll really have to wait until Raz jr is a bit older(almost 3yo) to really relive my childhood through film. The obvious Star Wars and not so obvious ThunderCats DVDs don't really float my girls boat. -
Willow is another cool one from around that time in the same genre. <br />
<br />
Also Spiderwick Chronicles is a more recent fantasy/adventure one that was quite good. -
Willow I've always rated as a piece o' crap, and the scenes at Milford Sound always made me cringe, but that's probably just me.<br />
<br />
I saw a new SciFi-ish release called "Splice" the other day. If not exactly sci-fi -- it actually seemed quite contemporary, and not at all futuristic -- perhaps more in a genre of "Unethical Genetics." Kinda creepy-horror. Stars Adrian Brody & Sarah Polley. <br />
<br />
Lotsa critics like it --<br />

-- but me, peh, mildly entertained, give it a 6.5/10.<br />
<br />
I will say however that it delivered the biggest - by far the biggest, and quite possibly inadvertent - thigh-slapping belly-laugh that I've seen in a movie in, welll, maybe ever.<br />
<br />
It involves a sex scene in a barn, where a husband is caught in an, ahem, compromising situation with, ummm, a "female" that isn't his wife, and shocked wife catches him in the act with his smoking gun and pants around his ankles, so to speak.<br />
<br />
Hilarity ensues when said-male then has to catch-up and explain himself to wifey.<br />
<br />
It might have been a male thing, but the theatre was filled with guys absolutely crying with side-splitting gales of laughter. I had tears streaming down my face, and it was such a distraction that men were still laughing at the scene 5 minutes afterwards and I suspect few people in attendance even heard the dialogue during that span. Absolutely, utterly, and probably unintentionally, perversely hilarious. -
For all you Nic Cage fans:<br />

It's a movie of my youth so while you are right in that it is no great shakes, as a kids adventure movie that isn't all "cutesy" and over protective parent friendly, I reckon its all good.
