A hung parliament is my ideal outcome. Imagine having a parliament where grown ups need to talk and agree on whether things are a good idea or not to get things done
-
@gibbon-rib at this stage, the ALP will need to play nice in the lower house, even if they reach majority, because the senate will probably have enough greens or independents to hold the keys
-
This is why I keep calling for Senators to be elected at the same time as State elections. That way they're more likely to do their job.

The Australian Energy Market Operator yesterday took control of the electricity market with the ability to direct generators to provide electricity and cap pricing. This as the most populous State in Australia asks residents to cut their power use for the third night in a row.
It isn't the fault of the new PM, but this cartoon captures my sentiment well enough:
(for those not in on the joke, a previous Labor PM promised in 1987 that by 1990 no child would be living in poverty).
The sad reality is this was entirely foreseeable when you have a policy free zone, a lack of domestic gas supply and permit dependable electricity generation to become uneconomic.
All in a country with every possible advantage to provide dependable, cheap electricity.

so turns out Scotty From Marketing may also have been
Scotty From Finance; and
Scotty From Health; and
Scotty From ResourcesThere's jobs for the boys, and then there's just swearing yourself in to jobs because you are a control freak.

@mariner4life this would be funny as, if true. I mean, there's "I don't hold a hose" and "I'm just a backbencher". Worlds apart, yet still on brand.

Nice confirmation that he was ever motivated by a sense of public service. What a repugnant fluffybunny.

hopefully I am forgiven for not leaving this in the politics meme thread.
There is one with a shorter intro but it's age restricted

@antipodean the memes are just writing themselves!

A two day summit (because Labor loves the theatre of consultation and inclusiveness) which results in the complementary outcomes of higher immigration to address work force shortage (if we ignore the labour participation rate) and wage growth.

Decent hit job on QANTAS on Four Corners.
Am enjoying in a nasty way.
Especially the references to "QANTAS Executives" being thinly veiled references to the evil leprechaun Alan Joyce.
Struggling to see any mitigating factors.
Am worried as am flying to Sydney in a couple of weeks...

Looking at the state of them and Jetstar, I've decided flying anywhere is a mug's game.
As long as have wallet and credit card will make the most of it in the CBDish hotel.
Otherwise heading out west to hang with our buddies The Aussies sans airline baggage for a week ...
