@Crucial the recent book about methamphetamine in nz by Jared Savage detailed the instant ramp up the 401s ( i think he called them, might be mistaken) had on the industry in nz. Literally within 2 weeks of the deportations they upped the ante with firearms and violence, according to the book. Turns out Australia has a better " education " system than us😉
Dutton rides again.
I've been calling for the reciprocal including Aussie tarrant for some time now. Goose and gander if you're going to intentionally run rough shod over a friendly national relationship.

I don't follow. How is the Australian government stripping New Zealanders of citizenship they don't have?

There are (and I will try and find evidence) cases of kiwi borns that acquired Oz citizenships and have had them revoked for being crims then deported.
There is another aspect which is that citizenships are automatically conferred to children born to NZ citizens overseas but being born in Oz does not confer Oz citizenship. So you can be completely born and raised in Oz but deported to NZ.
That myth of the kiwi dole bludger in Oz that led to a change in the status of kiwis there has caused a massive amount of grief.
Maybe Jacinda needs to copy Hugh Grants speech from Love Actually? -

Maybe Jacinda needs to take a look at this bloke's family tree.

It’s 501s after section 501 in the immigration act which is the “character test”. This is the one that revokes a visa is you are of bad character.
On the surface the clause is reasonable. You are a guest and have behaved badly.
The problem is when it is applied to people that have no connection with another country except birth. Then Oz are simply dumping their rubbish on someone else’s front lawn.
The root cause of this is the situation that allows people to live and work in Aus all their lives without being a citizen. On top of that if they have any other citizenship by right eg parentage, Aus can revoke their side of things and dump them elsewhere.
It’s the application of the law that stinks. -

It’s the application of the law that stinks. The 2001 changes which force NZers go through the permanent residency process (unless they meet the pre-1994 loophole) compound it further. Australian PR is now $7k+ that is a huge chunk of change for most for little benefit.
It isn't the $300-400 bucks to finalize citizenship which is the problem

Yep. No end of problems from 2001. Our own government at the time could have advocated a bit stronger (our diplomats certainly did). The “Special Category Visa” was basically “Second class residency”.
The change was purely a political ploy playing to a completely incorrect public opinion of kiwis lazing about on Bondi beach courtesy of the true blue taxpayers. Even the ARU played that up in advertisements.
The reason I feel so strongly about this is that I spent some time on the front desk at the NZHC in Canberra and saw first hand the damage caused.
An example would be a kiwi woman with a young child to a scumbag Aus father who was unable to return to safety and support in NZ without abandoning the child. She held no rights at all, the father was refusing to pay support, but blocked the child from leaving. She wasn’t eligible for any welfare despite caring for an Australian citizen. Fucked up. -

For me that depends on when they acquired citizenship. s501 of the Migration Act has nothing to do with revoking citizenship, that's about visas and any New Zealander refused or has their visa cancelled is not an Australian. They have no legal claim to remain here.
s35 of the Citizenship Act is what applies in this instance and I support its existence but to me that should only come into play when they make false statements or representations in their application (s50) or engaged in fraud in their application or committed a serious offence prior to the conferral of citizenship.
There is another aspect which is that citizenships are automatically conferred to children born to NZ citizens overseas but being born in Oz does not confer Oz citizenship. So you can be completely born and raised in Oz but deported to NZ.
Keep in mind children born in Australia to parents who are not Australian citizens or permanent residents, automatically acquire Australian citizenship on their 10th birthday if they have lived most of their life in Australia.

@antipodean cheers. You are correct in saying that 501 only applies to visa cancellation. I didn’t make that clear.
I believe though that the grounds for citizenship removal has expanded and can now be wide ranging. Basically you can be declared “unAustralian”. The interpretation has been along the same lines as 501 ie a 12 month or more prison sentence -
A big week or so in Aussie Politics.
Sexual assault cover up
Who knew what and when
Who chose to not know
Poor treatment and follow up support of the assault victim and of political staff generally
A new Rape allegation regarding a current Cabinet Minister prior to entering politics
A sudden health crisis for the minister who was due to go in front of the National Press Club and answer questions regarding the sexual assault that occurred in her office
And a labor opposition who have remained relatively quiet on the matter which could suggest they have a few of their own skeletons closeted somewhere.
And on top of all of that….Handbags at 20 paces with Mark Zuckerberg and Facebook over the paying for news content that appears on Facebook. Only real winner there will probably be Rupert Murdoch. No details of the deal done with FB have yet emerged.
Craig Kelly, rogue crack pot and conspiracy theory loving Liberal MP now ex-Liberal MP reduces the Libs majority in the lower house to zero I think, so that the Libs now have to go and do deals with other crackpot MPs like Bob Katter.
A doctor completing botching the Covid vaccine doses and over-dosing a couple of elderly patients (who seem to be fine thankfully)I am sure I have missed plenty

Tho TBH they had 3 women in their Executive Leadership team (same web page) which is reasonable.
