Novocaine: Jack Quaid from The Boys plays a guy who can't feel pain, and therefore has to be wary in life. For reasons he has to become John Wick, Liam Neeson, the Stath despite having none of the skills. Was a pretty fun film. Also stars Amber Midthunder from Prey.

A Working Man: I genuinely like most of Staths action movies, even if they're mostly the same movie. But this was one was pretty bad.

Warfare: A US Seal team gets into a firefight in a house they're in while supporting some marines. It goes a bit pear shaped. I thought this was a good war film, reminded me a lot of Black Hawk Down. Stars the main kid from Reservation Dogs, Will Poulter and a bunch of other familiar faces. Written by one of the members of the real life team.

This whole review is a complete contradiction. Can you go into more detail so I can be sure to avoid the movie ? cheers

Let's use this analogy, if his movies were songs then most of them, although they're pretty much the same song are written and performed by the Beatles. This one was written and performed by Nickleback. In other words best to avoid, but in all honesty don't listen to me, if you don't mind lesser Stath then you'll likely be entertained, I wasn't for the most part.

Still doesn't work as I tend to avoid the Beatles and Nickelback.

Statham is good as a smart ass geezer in an ensemble cast. I've never found a movie of his I enjoy with him as the lead.

Then why are we having this conversation? It's a Stath action movie, of course he's the lead.

"Levon Cade, an ex-Royal Marine Commando, works as a construction foreman in Chicago and is close with the Garcia family that runs the company. When the family's teenage daughter Jenny is kidnapped by Russian traffickers, Levon takes matters into his own hands to bring her back home."

Well, the plot certainly sounds original I'll give it that.

"I don't know who you are. I don't know what you want. If you are looking for acting skills I can tell you I don't have Oscars on the mantelpiece, but what I do have are a very particular set of Blue Steel scowls. Scowls I have acquired over a very long career. Scowls that make me a nightmare for people like you. If you let my daughter go now that'll be the end of it. I will not look for you, I will not pursue you, but if you don't, I will look for you, I will find you and I will torture you with my Mockney accent."

Watched The Green Mile for the first time last night (I know, I know).

Lived up to the hype. Roughly knew the story anyway but that didn't deter from an incredibly powerful film.

You should read the book or even listen to the audiobook. The film is great but so much was left out from Stephen King’s story

Death of a Unicorn: This is a batshit maybe horror comedy. I don't watch horrors so think it was listed as a black comedy but all the trailers were horror. Anyway it was a fun way to spend an hour and a half. Stars Paul Rudd, Jenna Ortega, Richard E Grant, Tea Leoni, Will Pouter and Noho Hank from Barry.

The book's definitely on the to-read list but will give the movie a bit of space to breathe first! Actually assumed it was a novella like Shawshank so was pleased to see it's basically a full novel when all the serials are compiled.

I enjoyed this more than I thought I would. The premise is well treated and it doesn't take itself seriously.

I've always had the opinion that the best Steven King based movies are better than the books, but the books are better than the shit Steven King based movies. If that makes sense?

Frank Darabont certainly has a knack for turning King stories into great films (although all three of the stories he's adapted were all fairly well received in the first place).

I rate Doctor Sleep very highly too (again, great director in Mike Flanagan). The newer IT films had their moments too. Stand By Me's a classic, understandably. The old Carrie is great. The rest are fairly forgettable, from what I remember (ha).

It does. The Mist (2007) was way better than the novella. Every adapation of The Stand is shit compared to the novel

It does. SK has a tendency to waffle a lot in his stories. The better films tend to find a way through that.
Green Mile for me is the rare book where the novel and movie are equal and better in their own ways.

I do highly recommend the audio book though

Even Stephen King admitted he preferred the ending in the movie over his own story

Compare that to The Shining which is one of the most acclaimed adaptions… SK hated it

The Mist is one of the best horror films I've seen - and not just the monsters. Marcia Gay Harden makes her character truly evil.

The Shining is great too, but it was more a Nicholson vehicle for me than a SK adaption, if you get my drift.

Definitely, The Mist was well done, great cast too.

Have heard The Long Walk’s film adaption is finally coming to release later this year. One of my fave novellas from SK. Will be interesting to see how it’s handled

Beautiful little Samoan film. Heartwarming comedy with some dark moments.

Samoan music teacher at decile 1 school in Christchurch loses her daughter in 2011 quake. 4 years later she's still grieving and reluctantly ends up at a snooty elite school. It isn't as stereotyped as you would expect except for a couple of the teachers who are caricatures.

It's beautifully shot, it's funny, the acting by the lead Anapela Polata'ivao is measured and understated. Gently examines racism, class and Samoan identity.

It'll make you laugh, cry and both at the same time. Has a couple of twists. Doesn't have the saccharine ending you anticipate. The singing is glorious especially the final curtain. Audience applauded at the end!! Also did a collective intake when the main character was called a black bitch.

    5 acapellas/ 5 harmonies

edit: Because this is the Fern. No tits 😉 Fortunately

I finished watching all the MCU movies up to Avengers End Game with my three boys, and this may trigger Tim but I thought they were excellent. I do say that in the context of seeing the enjoyment my boys got out of them, e.g. getting excited when Iron Man is F'ing shit up, so that may influence my review, but overall the build up to End Game was really good and even a bit emotional at the end there.

We are now working our way through the Xmen movies and they are also great fun, Wolverine in particular is the boys favourite at the moment, they cheer whenever he gets the claws out. Hugh Jackman really was peak male performance back then.

Its hard to remember what a movie event those 2 Avengers movies were.
Endgame in particular, it made $1.2B USD world wide in its opening weekend, that will never happen again.

im not a Super Hero/Marvel fanboy in any sense but those movies from Iron Man to Endgame were so fucken well done.

Since then Marvel has totally shit the bed, they really should have walked away for a few years instead of flogging a dead horse.
Even DPvsW takes the piss out of Feige and Marvel.
