Drag me to hell - 5.7/10, think they got tied up trying to decided whether to do a spoof or a genuine horror.

Fair few scary moments in it, but ruined by [spoiler:377s412t]that ridiculously comical fight scene at the start, and then the funny bit where the old bag's eyes popped out of her head into the chicks face. But that bit at the start, just took away form the genuine scaryness of the film. IMO like when you see the creature in Jeepers Creepers, it takes away the mysteriousness of the being[/spoiler:377s412t] -
Watched The Vinters Luck last night. It's based on the (kiwi) Elizabeth Knox novel of the same name and is directed by Nikki Caro. It was a pile of utter shit. Nikki really missed the point of the book and it is hard to believe that is was the same director that did whale rider and North Country.

Read the book and never see the movie. -

Agree that did kind of offset the balance of the film but it wouldn't be classic Raimi if he didn't leave those things in. -

Soul Men - with Bernie Mac and Samuel L. Jackson. Two old singers get together cause their former band front man from years ago dies.
Both play great 'mother fuckers' in the movie. Very good movie. Well worth a watch..

This was Bernie Mac's last movie, and Isaac Hayes is also in it who has also passed away.
I've seen that on a couple of occasions at the DVD store but it's always out. SLJ is good enough to make a potentially bad movie very good and Bernie Mac was all class as well. Surely I'll get lucky this time !

Saw "Last house on the left" a very good thriller with a [spoiler:1v3mrcit]pretty fucken brutal rape scene[/spoiler:1v3mrcit]

Incredibly gory and violent and very tense as well. The evil Terminator from the TV series plays a great bad guy in this.
I like Samual L. Jackson - so my review is probably biased. It's a funny movie - with some good named actors in it. Lots of swearing in it. So a movie to just sit back and enjoy rather that critique it.
Saw this over the weekend, formulaic and predictable as hell but that doesn't matter in this kind of movie. Some absolutely outstanding lines and comedy from both of them, the word "mother fucker" sure is bandied about ! you can tell they would have had heaps of fun making this movie.

Very, very funny and some quite cool music as well. Definitely worth a watch, its a 7 day rental so I've seen it twice already.

Also saw "Bruno" having missed it in the theatres when it was out.....

hard to say really. The predictable gross out bits as expected and I'd argue even more cringe worthy moments than Borat but not as funny maybe because we've seen it all before. I'm also certain that a shit load more people were actually "in" on it so to speak. One thing is for sure, Sacha Baron Cohen is the most shameless man that has ever lived. -
Austar have made my Pay TV so worth it, over the weekend they released about a thousand new movie channels, including one that is wall to wall action movies. Excellent.

Yesterday watched a JCVD classic, "Kickboxer" so very cheesy, but ticks all the boxes.

Last night a true classic. Bladerunner may be 27 years old, but it is still very very good. I think i was watching the lastest of 2 directors cuts. It is pretty deep with its themes for a Sci Fi movie, and maybe is even more relevant today than in '82, but it is a damn good movie.

Funny thing, it is set in exactly 10 years (November 2019). We have a lot of development to do to keep up with Mr Scott's bleak vision of the future. -

Flying cars ain't exactly the norm either and if you'd believe Back to the future they're due in 6 years. At least things look much happier on the whole than in Blade Runner though ! -
Saw 2012 on the weekend in Gold Class here in BrisVegas. Impressive effects and gives some sobering thoughts to a E.L.E. (extinction level event). Story was way too unbelievable and melodramatic. Unbelievable in the sense that the main protagonist should've died like 10 times but didn't. Too mamby pamby predictable @ the end too. Otherwise entertaining 7/10.
Ah Kickboxer [long nostalgic sigh]. If not great for the cheesy 80's action goodness the dance seen alone is worth sitting through the rest for.

Bladerunner is my all time favourite sci-fi movie. Its more grown up than any other sci-fi offering IMO. Every time I watch it there is something I pick up on that I missed the last time. -

maye use a spoiler?
Still heaps less than Arnie in Commando though ! he shouda, coulda, woulda but didnae die all through that action classic !

I haven't seen Blade Runner in ages but I certainly didn't like seeing Han Solo/Indiana Jones constantly get his ass kicked and be so downtrodden. One I definitely need to look at again though. Rutgar Hauer was cool before his career slid to Z Grade stuff.... -

In his defense, he does get beat up by androids, Daryl Hannah does sit on his face while beating him up, and he does manage to score with another android (by throwing her around and domanding obedience, quality). So he doesn't do too bad. -

errr... Sam Raimi dude. Thats exactly what he does... Horror with a healthy dose of tongue in cheek humour...
you ever see The Evil Dead ? Same guy... -
Never heard of Sam Raimi until mentioned here.

I generally dont pre-judge movies by directors, unless it is Tim Burton... -
In this case with Raimi you kind of have to know what you're letting yourself in for. I loved Drag Me To Hell because I was expecting it to be a bit out of kilter and it was.

As mentioned the Evil Dead series is something you should have a look at to get a feel for his work, if you're interested. Spider-man no so much especially the last Emo tinged one.

Evil Dead was scary as fuck. The 2nd movie was scary but a direct spoof of the first and the third is just good fun and completely ridiculous. -
