I'm enjoying the TLoU series. It's a great adaption of the game and it was pretty cool seeing some of the Bill/Frank story fleshed out. However, I do think the game's take on Bill's town is superior. The Joel/Ellie relationship is what makes the story and they've missed an important part of the two bonding in Bill's town and replaced it with a letter - which just isn't believable (though maybe it is if you haven't played the game). The sparring between Ellie and Bill in the game is good value too.
They do it well on the show too though !
Having not ever played the game but heard good things I’ve done a walkthrough on Youtube. Seems like they started faithful but have branched out a bit.
The bloke who plays Bill is excellent in everything he does. I remember him being brilliant in Fargo, the McDonalds movie and Parks and Recreation. You just know he’s always good value.
Pedro Pascal on the other hand is basically Mando without the mask ( perhaps thats why we find his voice so distinctive ? ) but he’s cool at what he does.
The episode is getting absolute rave reviews and rightly so. We really care about the characters and what happens to them.

@MN5 Yeah, the episode was really good. It may even pay off in the long run - but for me they'd have been better off sticking more with Joel and Ellie this early on.
Pedro is doing pretty well as Joel. I always thought Josh Brolin would smash the role out of the park - but Pedro is pretty good.
Actress playing Ellie is doing a good job too.
Be interesting to see how the Kiwi girl does when her time comes.

No ghosts, aliens, monsters, zombies or vampires, but the BBC is re-running Simon Schama's History of Britain in full HD, 16:9 glory.
Absolutely brilliant stuff.

Another good episode. I know CGI is pervasive these days, but it's really well done in setting scenes in TLoU. Especially that shot in episode two.

Absolutely. Perfect casting !
The fact his face is carved into a permanent scowl definitely helps.

What disease did Frank get ? Do I need to have played the game to know ?How come Bill seemed to have an endless supply of wine ?
I do get how he had a lot of ammo being ‘murica and all and the fact he probably didn’t get attacked TOO often…….

@MN5 ##spoiler
Not idea about the wine. Just assume he spent a lot of the early days collecting as much as he could. In the game Frank gets sick of Bill's ways and wants to leave and go on to the Boston QZ. Pretty much like it was earlier on in the episode when they had that fight about Frank cleaning up the town but Bill eventually gave in. Frank ends up stealing supplies off Bill and also steals
the only working battery and is preparing to go on the run when he's bitten by the infected. He ends up hanging himself.

It seemed to last for years and years. Perhaps he only drunk it on special occasions though.
Yep reading up on stuff their fates are much different in the game than the show.

I just assumed that Bill's parents were rich so had a large wine cellar.
I understand that the game is meant to be very character-driven so this episode showed the parallels of Joel and Bill's situation and journey.
Yeah but ( perhaps I’m only speaking for myself ) it would have to be absolutely fucken massive to last that many years.
But again, maybe he only had it every now and again.
I’m really overthinking the whole booze situation.

House of the Dragon - watched it on flights over the xmas break, really was just fine for me, lacking in characters im really rooting for...they're all kind of dicks, that combined with the fact we know where it all ends up and i can take or leave

Okay, so... Jack Ryan S03
I know I was warned against it.
I know I've been warned against any sort of diss against Strike Back.
So for starters...- Strike Back had great titties
- Strike Back had great stupid action
- I'm not anti-Strike-Back in any way or form
But....
- Jack Ryan Season 3 - was Strike-Back levels of plot dumb-ness
- And I could cope with that
- It didn't have the tits. And that sucked. But I'm working my way through deceased grandparents' liquor cabinet... so... cerebral-level is LOW.
- But fucking hell. That last episode. Just... so dumb. Fucking... forget every sensible concept. Fucking dumb. What a fluffybunny of an hour that was.
- I now understand the warnings I was rightly given about that season, I drank the more exotic of the liquors over the first few episodes, and had gotten down to the Bundenberg for the last couple. Bundenberg for fuck's sake. And I still realised it was shit. I'm fucking smashed, and angry, So shit.

Yeah I feel the same. The humour in the original is not politically correct by today's standards. A new series could be very amusing if it was able to push some boundaries, but it will either get itself cancelled by the outraged or it'll be too tame.
-
@Crazy-Horse yeah, started thinking they'd having having him struggling with things like airBnB, on line reviews, requests for gluten free or vegan breakfasts.....but all seems tame now i write it down...will still watch
couldn't even get away with Manuel now days
even the old sitcom format would date it

On top of that I imagined Basil struggling with Trans guests, people identifying as all sorts, all lives matter etc. Not sure how well that would go down.
