Ginger mullets? No wonder they didn't pick him, he's not playing for the Highlanders you know!

So that is Crotty and Havili completing their required two stand downs.
I think Codie Taylor and Scott Barrett have one more apiece and that is us done. I would have been inclined to rest Codie this week - largely because an injury to Makalio could see us scraping the barrel to find hookers to cover for him.
Mitchell Drummond hasn't missed a game yet, so I'm assuming he's not on the list of people required to do so.
Dunshea gets onto the bench again - I'm wondering if that's because Quentin Strange is injured, as well as Romano, and that's the reason for deferring Scott Barrett's second rest? With a bit of luck it sounds like we might have Romano back next week, at least on the bench - and can give Barrett his second rest.
Wonder what the story is with Owen Franks missing this game. "Required a break after starting three games" sounds like he's had a bit of a reaction in his Achilles?
Other notable feature is playing the two big boppers on the wing. Ennor getting a rare chance on the bench. Macilai might be a bit worried about his future. I don't think he's featured this year.

Macilai's contract was extended at the end of Blackadder's term. It expires at the end of the season. I'd be surprised if he gets another contract extension.

Crusaders could stand their starting XV down and it wouldn't matter. These fucking sky blue clowns can't beat the worst Kiwi team at home. They surely can't beat one of the best Kiwi teams away.
Crusaders in danger of fucking up their 96-19 record.
It's your relentless positivity that I find so rewarding in your posts.
Also, as Blues Fan, I feel your pain.

He gets happier during Cricket season, no controversy and they win all the time....
Aw hang on.....

@taniwharugby spoke to a contact who watches a bit of Canterbury club footy,Macilai and Ennor both played for University against Sumner on the weekend,University were well beaten up front,Macilai did not see much ball, but looked reasonably fit.
-
@taniwharugby Last I heard of him, they'd flown him to Argentina as injury cover for the Jaguares match - but Ennor sat on the bench for that one. I think he's featured in some of those B team games. I'd guess that he's fit but not required.
That Big Seta is buggering off might throw him a lifeline. They'd have to find two new wings if they retain the current squad balance.
-
@wally I happened to catch a Razor interview on Radiosport an hour ago and he was downplaying the resting of Owen as just "big schedule coming up" and "chance to get in some conditioning".
Thought that was a bit odd - Owen's had pretty limited minutes of footy and I'd think he'd benefit more from playing than rest if he were fit.

@chris-b is Macilai even fit? Opposite of durable is that man...talent to burn just seems lacking a bit of ticker.
Watched him play club rugby a couple weeks back. Looked a bit fat, but jeez he’s elusive and fast
-
@sammyc Yeah - I've always thought he was a decent prospect, but I thought the same about Sione Fifita as well.
He's probably the most vulnerable of the current backs - along with Stratton and Delaney - though those guys have a pretty good idea of what they're contending with (Enari and old age).

@nta It's well worth a rewatch.
And a re-liveblog from Cameron McMillan:
https://www.nzherald.co.nz/sport/news/article.cfm?c_id=4&objectid=12048543
*It's 16 years since the Crusaders thrashed the Waratahs 96-19 in their final round Super 12 clash. Ninety-six remains the most points scored by one team in a Super Rugby game while the Crusaders' 14 tries is a record matched only by the Lions against the Sunwolves last year.
The teams just happen to clash tomorrow in Christchurch. Crusaders coach Scott Robertson started at No 8 for the red-and-blacks that night while Waratahs coach Daryl Gibson scored a try off the Crusaders' bench.
I was working for TVNZ's website nzoom. With with two games being played that night and just two staff on, I drew the long straw and blogged the earlier clash between the Highlanders and the Reds. Colleague Dana Johannsen (you may have heard of her) had the misfortune of having to blog the Crusaders-Waratahs clash. Blogging can be intense - having to describe 17 tries was next level.
To mark the 16th anniversary I decided to finally blog the game, courtesy of a YouTube link for a Japanese audience but with Sky commentators.*
