@Bovidae I've had Rival Sons on my playlist for quite some time now, but for some reason always thought they were Scandinavian, or some such, with english as a second language.
I must have mixed them up with somebody else.
But songs like "Electric Man" - with lyrics such as "oh hot lady hot lady, ... gonna drive you like a cadillac, ... gonna take you to the sugar shack, ... coz I'm electric, I'm the electric man, oh yes I am"... and I'm sure some other nonsense thrown in... always re-affirmed to me that they were non-native english speakers just plucking random rock cliche words and throwing them together.
Great fun, but a parody of generic rock.
But - I still chose, and continue to choose, to focus on the "great fun".I've just now discovered that I seem to have accidentally deleted all their shit when I did a full "refresh" of the music on my phone... so now downloading their back catalogue to throw back in the mix.

@Kruse I wasn't familiar with Rival Sons until I listened to Feral Roots on a recommendation back in 2019. That is a really good rock album. I haven't heard their earlier stuff (pre Hollow Bones) but in this interview with Jay Buchanan talking about their most recent album, the lyrics have definitely improved then. He sounds like a really interesting guy.

Me and the lad are seeing these guys live in about a month - I don’t have them on repeat, but I reckon the concert will be pretty fun
Aqua meets The Bloodhound Gang meets Alien Ant Farm

So I watched the documentary "meet me in the bathroom" which was actually quite interesting about NY music in that era and how some bands came together or evolved..then led to some finding some tracks that I hadn't listened to in a while
and one of my personal favourites from that era
-
like the Yeah Yeah Yeahs
Can't fucking stand Interpol

can understand the Interpol one, The Rapture though with their mix of electronica and punk was one of my favourites

Both of those bands get lumped in to modern alternative playlists with lots of British bands that start with "The" and groups like Bloc Party so i went through a phase about a year ago of listening to heaps of them. YYY led me off to listen to more, Interpol had me hitting the skip button
Obviously the obligatory purely my opinion for discussion purposes only.

Obviously..
The Rapture also inspired bands like LCD soundsystem, but "pieces of the people we loved" is an album from that era worth listening too
ooh..Silent Alarm from Bloc Party coming up next, that whole album rocks

You had me until this line
Good to see the TSF music thread drag itself out of the 90's and into the 00's
