Two players I thought when watching should have had a career and a longer career in Black:

    Roy Kinikinilau
    David Hill

Roy had all/has (still playing for the Ricoh Black Rams according to Wiki) all the talent but just seemed to drift off and lack involvement in games. But when he was on he was lethal in attack.

David Hill I thought had all the tools and was one of the best thinking 10's going at the time, was very strategic I thought. He was one of the biggest 5/8ths going around. He's also still playing for the Toshiba Brave Lupus with Richard Kahui.

I watched a replay of the 2006 NPC final last week between Waikato and Wellington. I thought I better watch Waikato win once that week - little did I know.

Anyway, Hill was the Waikato 2nd 5 in that game, playing outside Donald. He was very good against Umaga and was successful with every kick at goal. I think 2nd 5 was his best position as he was a big guy.

Kinikinilau was an unused sub for Waikato in that game. Agree with @ACT-Crusader about him.

Hill is Dan Vettoris cousin as well.

Him and Donald were pretty damn similar players from memory.

A few from Taranaki who were sawn off by injury . Mark Allen , Jason Eaton and James Broadhurst . All probably due consideration for such a team .

Looks to be like "The Wolf" might be a Bot trying to be pretend to be a Ferner.

Got to try harder, Mr Bot. A long rant about Wayne Barnes, Carlos Spencer, Mark Hammett, Akira Ioane or the future of Super Rugby might have been more convincing.

James Kerr. Big fan of his work back in the day. Sidestepping Tana.....tackling Jonah.....he could do it all

Dale Atkins at No 8? Damn good player but needed another four or five inches added to his height. Any thoughts on Neil Ruddell from you Northland guys?

I suggest what could have been would have been a lot of losses.

@Higgins Atkins is the one I always think of in this sort of thread. A sort of Canterbury Duane Monkley.

No. 8 with the speed of a midfielder - which was a rare thing in the 1980s.

@Nepia Yes indeed. But I will say, along the lines of 'what could have been', is if extended AB squads and tests against Japan etc had been a thing in many of those guys' careers, a lot of them would have been capped. Scary. A couple, such as Angus Gardiner and Greg Smith (who's career was all too brief) would have been quite worthy.

I await @ACT-Crusader and @Canerbry's next efforts in the competition for the most Cantanbrian award. This will take some topping.

Zac Guildford and Caleb Ralph never scored tried as important as the one James Kerr got either.

Yeah but Zac contributed meaningfully in other ways. Such as to the underground Class A trade. And similarly, Ralph almost single-handedly kept STI clinics the province over humming, he was such a swordsman.

Caleb scored my mates wife before they were married. The thing that annoyed him most was she didn’t get with a ‘decent’ AB of the era. It always made watching Crusaders games with them bloody funny when his face came up.

The halfback for North Harbour Mark Robinson. (Sharky)
Had a quick pass, very strong and quick off the mark.

Random memories but can't remember the name.
A lock that played a few tests for NZ in the late late 90s.
Pretty big, blond spiky hair. High workrate.
Colin Meads commented he was still hitting rucks at the end of a game against Southland.
I think he played for Waikato.
Can't remember his name. (not Mark Cooksley)
