Waikato vs Otago - Ranfurly Shield
-
I just read that the WRU will be having a Ranfurly Shield parade on Wed. A good decision to bring back some of the old traditions, even if the parade isn't on the morning of the game like the good old days.
Let's hope we get to have more parades next season!
-
@Bovidae I reckon! Will only be good if they have the big Mooloo cow on the float.
I remember when I was a nipper, I knew where it used to be parked and I would sneak round for a peak and feel a bit special. thspecshel!

I still remember the "Beautiful Sunday' celebration at Rugby Park when they took it off Auckland when I was a kid. And numerous mooloo parades down Victoria St. Marvellous!
-
Ranfurly shield really was the thing to win. Everyone cared!
-
I remember the 93 win over Auckland. At that time i could only ever remember Canterbury and Auckland holding the Shield and it was hard to see anyone beating Auckland to win the Shield. Still one of my absolute favourite days as a Waikato fan. That win was bigger than big. I recall the parades, getting the see the Shield up close. It was pretty cool.

My mates and I went to Eden Park for the previous RS challenges in 1989 and 1991 but didn't go to the 1993 game. I like to think that helped.
1997 was fun though.

@hooroo if we won the Shield, I reckon it'd be huge up here, having not had it in my lifetime!
Just getting a challenge is a rarity for some teams these days, let alone winning the damn thing!

@Chris-B comment incoming in 3...2...1....

@kiwimurph "Scarce" is not the word - it feels like "Possibly Extinct"!
More than six fucking years since a Tasman challenge was last sighted.
Wanganui - a Heartland Province - has had three challenges in that time!

Question: is Declan O'Donnell injured? If so, is he out for the season? I think he hasn't played since round 2?

Probably. Both O'Donnell brothers haven't played since the early rounds.

@Stargazer
Declan is on the bench. No Reece. -

Waikato, please, do your job and keep the Shield!
In return, I'll support you today!
-
What a rat shit crowd,so much at stake,top of the table for Championship and Ranfurly sheild,good day in the Waikato empty seats for Africa..!
-
That was a bs decision to disallow that earlier Waikato try. Collins was miles offside to start with.
-
Brendon Pickerall at his pedantic best,he pulls Otago up for an accidental obstruction ,which really did not interrupt the play as the commentators were saying..then he spends about 2m looking at an illegal cleanout which really and truthfully sum the guy up.
-
shoulda been a YC, late, no arms.
-
@taniwharugby everyday of the week and twice on Sunday,Waikato should have been playing with 14 players for 10 minutes..
I don’t normally have a go at officials,but Pickerall is very poor..should be doing heartland,he has no feel for the game..! -
ball mighta been out but the guy was never on side
-
Waikato play like they're panicking already. There's really no need, It's still close and enough time.
-
man some of the high tackle penalties these days!!
-
@stargazer Pickerall I missing a good game,,how pedantic is the guy..?
-
@steven-harris Nutbrown is worse.
-
No arms tackle again.
-
@stargazer he’s up there no question..now a local TMO gets involved..and Pickerall starts second guessing himself again..stick to your decision clown..!
-
BS if this goes back
-
good call by Brendon.
-
Come on Waikato. You can stuff it up next week, not today.
-
There was nothing in it in my book,it was accidental and this is where officials need to make common sense decisions..especially when incidents are clearly accidental..Otago have more right to be rueful about many of the 50/50 decisions..especially the late hit to the back in the first half.
-
@stargazer I think I prefer they lose the shield and get really sad and dont get over it
-
@taniwharugby I want a home semi.
-
@stargazer same
-
@stargazer I know you do..,I just can’t stand Matt Cooper
-
@taniwharugby Yeah, but you can't get one.
-
@stargazer dont mean I have to stop wanting one
-
@taniwharugby Haha
