Waikato v Otago - Championship Final
-
I think Waikato are playing Otago on Friday night.
Expect at least 70 people there!
Lost shield and don't really care too much what division we end up next year as we still will play teams from both "comps"

They'll play less first division teams. Surely those are the more interesting matches?
You don't care if your team has a chance to win the first division next year? Is that just because you don't think they'd have a chance in that competition?

No, it's because I don't really care about the comp and haven't for quite some time.
I do still like the shield and try and make sure I at least watch them on the telly.
I doubt I watch it on Friday night unless I have absolutely nothing to do.
I think I would be much more interested if the comps were separate and you actually needed to win it to play top flight teams.
-
Just seen it is $10 entry which if you're even slightly interested is a very reasonable price to go along
-
The last final Waikato hosted was in 2011 so there is no excuse if you are a Mooloo fan.

It will be interesting how many will attend. I wonder what the WRU see as a decent turnout? 10,000?
-
@hooroo 5000?
-
I'd split the difference.
The biggest crowd this year would have been the Hawke's Bay RS defence, ~5000.
-
Referee is Ben O'Keeffe.
-
I'll take him. Pickerill is all over the place so happy not to have him with the whistle.
-

Yeah prolly? I really have no idea. Haven't seen any real promotion for it outside of facebook but in saying that, I wouldn't expect to in the likes of Matamata etc

Waikato is screwed then.

Gibbes has gone for more mobility at lock with McWhannell and will bring on the experienced Bond in the 2nd half. The same for Smith on the bench.
Reece to continue his try-scoring feats.

Then home to towel up the misses?
-
Otaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaago
that is all

I thought he did that in the streets?

@nepia In a pub I believe.
A bit like John Timu.
I happened to be in Freemans that night.

I don't know the Timu story. Dunedin?

No, Hamilton. Freemans was one of the names of the bar on the corner of Collingwood and Victoria Sts.
It was after a Waikato-Otago game in the CANZ series, so late 1980s or early 1990s. Timu chatted up a girl whose boyfriend objected and punched him.

I know Freemans in Hamilton ... $1 red wine nights.
But what has that story got to do with Reece's?
-
It wasn't meant to be a serious comment. Both incidents happened in a central city pub.

Oh, I thought you were saying Timu was arrested for assaulting his missus too.
-
Otago getting back into this game after a terrible defensive start.
-
That was an excellent pass to Tupaea, leading to another try to Waikato.
-
Man I really hope Tupaea gets picked up by the Chiefs, as with Reece, despite the controversy.
-
Waikato dominating here
-
Hoping Coltman pings a hamstring so there is no chance he gets to represent in Black this year
-
How was that not a penalty for deliberate knock down
-
How big is the crowd?
-

Because knock down is not a penalty? And anyway, he knocked it up (and forwards).
-

That one was about as blatant as you see.
-
@tim crowd not that big,I doubt wether it’s 4,000..
Here’s a legitimate question.
Would it be better to stay in the championship division as the Ranfurly Sheild holders where you would play at least 3 championship teams and 2 Premiership division teams or get promoted to the premiership division and based on what I have seen of the 2 semifinals last week, battle yours arses off to starve off relegation..? -
Otago's cleanout was terrible in that play. Forwards in the backline and asking for a turnover.
-
Faddes has been dreadful tonight.
-
@hydro11 I think you can add Josh Ioane to that list as well, not a good night for the young fella,Waikato targeted him in the first half and his game has gone to pieces.
-
@tim said in Waikato v Otago - Mickey Mouse comp Final:

Slightly bigger than some recent Waikato crowds ive seen. Perhaps 7k?
-
Congrats to Waikato. Deserved winners of the Championship; the only Championship team that looked ready for a return to the Premiership.
-
@stargazer absolutely totally agree,Otago and Hawkes Bay have had their moments in the championship, but Waikato from round 4 have been sensational,be interesting to see if they will go to the market to bolster their roster..!
