@mn5 no chippies is what you say to your toddler.
Even my English wife knows the right context for them now when I talk about them, although still calls chips crisps.
Nope, if I’m going to a mates place and ask what to bring the reply will be “beer and chippies” every time.
Loads of people I know say chippies.
You should probably stop hanging out with 10-year olds.
And stop giving them beer.To be fair - I think when I was doing some online shopping recently, I typed in "chippies", just to see if the system catered for kid-speak. And yep - all good. Got myself some sweet chippies.
And yeah - after 13 years in the UK - I was still in the chips, chips, chips camp.
I was probably closer to relenting on the "fries" than I was on "crisps". -

For me you have a bag of chips which is great on white bread and butter with tomato sauce or you have hot chips (Think, thin, wavy or otherwise) which is great on white bread and butter with tomato sauce.
Known as the Chip Buttie in the UK - Yorkshire's great contribution to world cuisine.

I've known it as that my whole life and my family has no links to Yorkshire....go figure!

It’s much healthier if you put bacon in instead of chips. Think of the protein.

And, just like the fish finger sandwich it is getting poshed up by loads of “gastropubs” <shudder>.
Sourdough artisan bread or even worse a glazed brioche bun. Add some poncey lettuce and plaice goujons (ha-ha, auto correct and my fat thumbs made that gonads) and garnish with home made tartare sauce. Fuck off that is not a fish finger sandwich. 2 slices of killer white bread, butter, Birds Eye fish fingers courtesy of the seafaring paedophile and some Heinz tomato ketchup.
That is it.

@catogrande I had a young guy who worked for me some years ago and despite being perfectly normal in every other respect he would only ever eat a handful of foods. He had fish finger sandwiches from a lunch place out the other end of Canary Wharf for lunch every day. Always basic white bread, marg, not butter, and Heinz tomato ketchup.
He had never tried, pizza, pasta or rice. Curry and other “foreign food” were out of the question.

He has to be british. There's a deep culinary conservatism that runs through a lot of the country. There is truly amazing food, but also an absolute shitload of inedible rubbish.

Yep. They don't seem to eat much food that isn't Indian, Chinese, Italian, Spanish, Mexican, French, Japanese or American in origin.

I can recommend this pub just off the A30 near Launceston. What they do with a microwave and a frozen lasagne will blow your mind.

Not a meme as such but still a good advice starting point for any young ladies.
