@MajorRage 100% worthy. Sad news but things had gone quiet around his return. Stink that his knee never came back 😞

A key member of our 2011 bomb squad and a really good AB. All the best for life after (playing) rugby bro.

"Dagg, Dagg, beautiful running, Israel Dagg, still goooing, Is-rael Dagg. Hooo! Hooo! What a try!"

A key part of the gang who ended the curse in 2011. At his best, Izzy was magical. All the best for his career post-professional Rugby where I am sure the commitment to hard work, excellence and breaking boundaries he learned with the All Blacks will put him in good stead.

It'll be a long long time before we see anyone with a punt as long as his, or facial expressions as contorted. What a dead set legend, played really well on the run through in 2011.

Enjoy retirement fella, there's always a second career in the world Gurning championships

He was a brilliant player when at his best. Sadly the last few years have not been vintage but it in no way detracts from what was an excellent ABs career

Excellent career Dagg had. Not the biggest guy but gee he could break the line and he could punt.

I'll never forget that RWC semi final - he was on fire that night.

    Smithy must be devastated.

I'm sad. 😢 Sad for Izzy that his career ends this way, sad for all his fans that we don't get to see him play anymore, especially sad that he can't finish his career in the black & white hoops like he wanted and that we as Magpies fans would have enjoyed. One of my favourite Magpies! An awesome representative of our region! Okay, I'm going to watch some Youtube videos now ...

    Thank you, Izzy!

Could have been slightly better if his left leg was slightly longer and managed to kick Quade in the head as well as the leap.

@Virgil The only effective tackle on Dagg was by McCaw! Note DC's clean out at the previous ruck, awesome.

Bummer he couldn't finish his career on his own terms. Had a pretty decent career RWC win and 60 tests, a Super rugby win (?) with the Evil Empire, the Highlanders, and of course the highlight of his career playing for the Magpies.

His Highlander years probably went under the radar a bit, but his two years there were probably two of his better Super Rugby seasons.

I have a feeling that most fans don't even know he played for them.

Out of interest does anyone know how their player insurance works. Like he would have missed a couple of million over the next 3-4 years playing in Japan/France. Im assuming ACC doesn't fit the bill of future potential earnings and their insurance may.

Im sure all they would have to prove is intent and compare contracts to other 50-70 game AB's plying their trade overseas.

My favorite memory was at school playing a team all yelling 'smash the fullback' when he was about 15. He then stepped their whole team from 80 out and scored.I don't think I ever had breakfast with him the day after an AB's game so not much chop of a story.

@Magpie_in_aus He really did wind up playing for the ultimate poachers - first Lindersfarme and then the Crusaders. Holy shit, he’s actually been a villain all this time.

He had a weird old career. His comeback after being dropped from the RWC was one of the more pleasant surprises in recent times. As others have said Highlanders and early AB Dagg was by far the best version of him.

Just a shame we never got to see him sport the 10 jersey, oh well I hope he gets all the Advanced Hair Studios money going...

Every AB finishes their career having never lost to Ireland. I mean they’ve never beaten us. At least not since I last checked the stats round about the 4th November 2016.

Bummer of a way to have to leave Rugby Izzy, loved just about everything you did on the paddock from the Haka to scoring tries that shouldn't have been scored. Enjoy family time
