Who is the AB's 4th choice at 10?
-
He is, I believe?
Iโd have Dan as our fourth choice. Stay fit man!
Edit: he is still at Kobe. It would be a classic story if he were called up:
-
Let's make sure the Beaver isn't white baiting this year.
-
I don't mind the boy at the Highlanders, i think he has the building blocks.
He's a fucking mile off being ready for test rugby though.
We really were lucky in 2011 that the guy called in laaate in the piece, as 4th choice, was test experienced, and at least had some top quality Super form to fall back on.
We can't even say that about our apparent 3rd option at the moment.
Still, this feels like a 1st world problem type thread.
-
Would they bend the rules and look off shore? Parker? At least he is playing in the Super comp.
Tom Taylor?
-
With Brett Cameron stinking up the joint, Hunt and Ioane not playing much, isn't the next cab off the rank Otere Black? Not that I think he's ready.
It certainly isn't Marty Banks, and TJ was poor there for the Canes.
Beaver 10 is fully up for grabs. You'd think they's want a closer look at one extra ten, whoever it would be.
-
If we are scratching for a 4th choice, Iโd actually take a punt on TJ Perenara as the option for the RWC. Piri Weepu v2.0
Of course we want that next tier to be developing, but I wouldnโt want any of them coming into the AB squad.

Black, Banks and Marty McKenzie are the eligible options who are starting regularly

Jesus Christ.

What about Giraffe? He has looked comfortable in almost every other position he has played so it wouldn't be too out of the box to chuck him in there if need be.
-
@Canes4life Hell yes, let's add another position to the carousel, before they move him to the forwards.
Sorry, can't see that, apart from the kicking. Don't think he'd be ready to steer the team.
-
@Stargazer this is worst case scenario, surely he's a better option than Perenara.
I'd rather Jordie than some of the others mentioned, and who knows the All Blacks may also have a locking crisis.
-
@Canes4life Actually, for game management I think Perenara would be much better.
-
@Stargazer TJ would have the experience but Jordie wouldn't look that far out of place - it's not like he is a complete greenhorn.
-
@Canes4life I don't trust Jordie's decision-making abilities one single bit (for a ten). He's still making many mistakes, and the halves have far less time for decision-making than outside backs, or even midfielders.
-
jeez keep up fellas, I already mentioned TJP @10 furthe rup this thread and JB for 10 in the TRC thread
-
Fair call, I just can't imagine M McKenzie or Banks starting in a WC - very one dimensional.
-
Crotty

Crotty
Then we'd need a 5th choice because he'll be broken
-
Jaysus is that all we have?

No, we have Garden Bachop as well.
-
Debreczeni would be NZ eligible wouldn't he? Not that we've seen him play properly yet. The idea of MMac the All Blacks bolter makes me sick but it'd be better than Cameron. Hunt needs more game time I reckon he's a quality player. Ioane also looks good, Banks would be a meme. Bring back Beaver.

Tough audience.
We're light on 10s as we lost 2 world class 10s in the last year or so with Cruden and Sopoaga heading overseas. Takes time to bed in newbies and replacements ... so I wouldn't panic. They'd start Cruden over one of those two in an emergency.
Reality is, though, if they got called into the squad it'd be another Paulasi Manu situation.
-
Reckon bring in dagg (yes i mentioned this in the other thread) one game to completely blow out the knee once and for all and let the ferners RIP knowing all our harping on about him at 10 was justified.

You say that as if the other options are any more trustworthy. At least Jordie has plenty of test experience already. I'd far prefer him to the other 10s mentioned in this thread.

Leon MacDonald
-
I'm sure Jordie can play a bit of 10.

Does it, what! To elaborate:
-
@NTA what youโre not liking the resurgence of Quade to build 1st 5 depth in OZ?

Actually I think it can only be a good thing - but the hilarious part: everyone's talking about how awesome he's looking because he's "underplaying his hand". Nobody is talking about the razzle dazzle bullshit that saw him get into so much trouble.
"Oh," I said to a Queenslander, "you mean doing the basics and enabling everyone around him, aiming for a match result without any stupid shit? Much like Foley does?"
They were not pleased.

FFS is this Jordie guy some kind of superhero or something?
He's a 12! No he's a 10!
He has been blooded in positions where traditionally errors don't matter too much but good play can shine and even then he has proved fallible in his decision making.
He had a headline making game on the wing against Italy but (I was at the game and watched him off camera) he was out of position quite a bit and DMac spent half the game directing him.He is undoubtedly a skilled rugby player but give the kid a chance to settle in with some experience before declaring he can fill in in the most critical position in the team.
