Sowing your oats... breakfast recipes!!
-
ok, hopefully that got your attention. No references to eggs in the morning either thanks!

I picked up some oats and while I've seen plenty of recipes etc across various threads I am feeling lazy : )

If you'd be so kind as to repeat how you prepare your oats for breakie that would be much appreciated! -
Not being a morning person I add milk to my Monster Muesli.

Proats

Put 1 cup of oats in a bowl / container
Make 1 cup protein shake (ie 250ml milk and 2 scoops protein powder).
Pour protein shake over oats. Mix well and leave over night. Eat in the morning (cold).

Just oats
Put 1 cup of oats in a bowl / container
Sprinkle in 15-20 raisans and 1 tea spoon of cinnamon.
Mix well and leave over night. Eat in the morning (cold).

Both very easy and taste pretty dam good to me. With Proats you can flavour it up depending on the protein flavour you use. Had choc yest, vanilla today, maybe bananna tomorrow. Mmmmm. -
1/2 cup wholegrain oats
handful of baby spinach leaves
small carrot
200ml milk
1 scoop vanilla protein powder
1/4 cup of frozen blueberries
cinnamon
vanilla essence

Blend it all together. Love it as it knocks off two of the five a day veges for the day first thing. -
no milk needed if you use protein powder, added calories for nothing!

ah, 1 cup whole grain rolled oats, scoop protein powder, water, chopped up kiwi friut or banana.
for variety qand extra protein - 3 egg whites blended and then mixed in to the above.

tastes champion to me!! -
Yeah but if you are chasing calories then milks all good. Extra protein too! That calci extra milk is shit hot.

Its funny though, can't stand milk and protein as a shake (much prefer water), but with oats I like my milk. -
No liquid with that last mix?

Had a cup of oats this morning mixed in with Mammoth supply yoghurt - tasted good and kept me full for ages. Too much sugar etc in that brand though so I'll be trying some of these other recipes.

Soaking overnight just makes them softer?? -
Whoops hell that would be ROUGH! Forgot to add the milk. Usually just cover the oats and yep by next morning the oats have absorbed the milk and its nice and soft and good to eat.

Never thought about doing it just with water. Will be the go from now on as I'm one of those that doesn't need the extra calories. -
Over christmas I had oats with custard....was awesome!
-
Oats with 2 scoops of protein powder and skim milk. On weekends I also have 3 boiled eggs (remove yokes).

Not recommended if you're in a rush and don't have time for... ahem bog time afterwards. -
I remember the firat time on this Oats kick and food guru didn't specify milk or water, and I assumed milk. For that month strangely enough I had no bf loss. Trainer was perplexed until we discovered I was using milk in oats! I think it was me saying, "I even use trim milk in my oats", and she was "milk, WHERE does it say to use MILK"!!

Ooops.

But if you were not using the protein powder, and not bodybuilding and counting every singe damn calorie, I am sure Trim milk would be fine!! -
Hmmm wonder if I should switch to water even in my current state? Reckon I am still a bit short in calories and thought those from milk would probably be better than from some other foods. Was even thinking of having a big glass of calci-trim milk pre bed to help meet the calories target
-
one of our pre beddy-bies is cup yoghurt and scoop protein. mixed together, tastes great. SO glass of trim milk probably not too at all, better than half a packet of Tim Tams!

Mmmmmm, Tim Tams... -
Prepared 1 cup of oats, 1 cup of trim milk and a bit of cinnamon last night. I don't have much of a sweet tooth but the first spoonful was a bit bland this morning so I added a sprinkle of brown sugar : )

I'll pick up some fruit which will def help on the sweetness front. Raisins, banana, etc are all things I like to eat.

Two days of oats for breakie and wow do they keep you full.

Mates wedding is 10th March (I'm a groomsman) so that's a clear goal for my training and eating nice and clean. -
lotsa sugars in raisins!
-
what are the best sweetener options?? JK only adds 15-20 raisins!! that doesn't seem like heaps!

Actually having a proper, healthy breakfast is already putting me ahead lol. -
nah, just Ness got told off for eating a trail mix type thing, "do you know how much sugar is in a handful of raisins"!!!

My weakness is dates, and I read the back of the Pams packet that I can scoff down by accident - think it has a third of my calorie intake for a day, or a bit more actually, can't recall, but it was HEAPS!

I'm on about 2800 at the moment, plus cheats!!! -
and there is an artificial sweetener, yellow box, in the same section at New World as the cooking stuff - muffin mixes etc. can't remember the bloody name though sorry!

and it probably isn't that important, a handful isn't much, but wehen you're counting every single calorie, it is! -
What brand of oats are you guys buying? I tried generic wholegrain oats once and they were terrible. I do like the over-processed Uncle Toby version though <img src='http://www.daimenhutchison.com/invision/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=';)' />
-
Pams! Or whatever tis on special at New World - harroways (?) too I think, but usually Pams.
-
I have started actually eating breakfast! I was one of these useless people who had a coffee and maybe toast for brekkie.

Now have a cereal, may progress to oats, will see what happens as I have made a number of minor changes in my diet since New Year and after a brief hiccup with evacuation issues, things appear back on track. -
Harroways for me too. Find em great and not too pricey either as go through them pretty quickly.

Yep raisans are sugary and probably dont really need them if having protein and oats but they do taste bloody good. Always look forward to my proats in the morning! -
Also switched to oats during November. Good to read the recipes here.

Mine is simple: Oats, raisans, cinnamon. No milk. Just water. -
Got some pretty funky oats this morning....

Spotted some flavoured milk in the fridge....chocolate mint. So poor that over some oats to soak in overnight. Interesting flavour but probably a crap load of sugar in there!!! -
Different recipe this morning. Trim milk and a dash of vanilla essence instead of cinnamon. Added in raisins and it was good!
-
P.S - Can the smart guys tell me the great thing about cinnamon again, please?

Too lazy to go search and read it up now. -
Was running low on milk last night so went with water in my proats.....hell its bland...struggling through. May have put too much in as its runnier than usual and also maybe not enough protein either. Will try again with less water and milk protein powder before i right it off.
-
something to do with controlling your blood sugar levels or something, and tasting nice!!

yes, not too much water, and a decent scoop of protein needed. If your protein is a taste like shit version, you're poked! -
My protein tastes great with water usually (too sweet with milk) so I'm sure I just got my mix wrong this time.
-
One unexpected side effect of this diet change has been the gas!! whoa momma!! Did a bit of reading and oats (esp uncooked) are right up there in the gass producing kai list. Some sites suggest adding oats and those other 'gassy' foods to your diet in small amounts. Guess a cup at a time isn't a small amount : )
-
I think your body gets used to it - used to Fart like a trooper every second of the day it seemed. Much more 'normal' again now. That was probably the first few months though, 3 years later normal as a normal thing!
-
haha yeah I got major gas at first from oats and all the extra protein I was forcing in. Ya body does get use to it though over time.

Had my proats with berry flavoured whey this morning....not bad at all. Will do it again for sure. -
Fuarkkk!!! The wife must have been doing some cooking as I thought I was sprinkling cinnamon on my oats last night and its turns out it was 5 spice or something funky like that......ROUGH!!!

Still its my oats....and they are going in!! -
beautiful!!
-

That sounds good!! Haven't added protein powder yet though -
7 short black esspresso's over the course of 4 hours at work. Been my work routine for 20 years now
-
Sounds good to me Gibbit - about my intake of coffee on lean down time!!
yeah, well i used to pour milk over it , and have a protein shake as well before leaving for work,

then I thought why not kill two birds with one stone and try adding it over the top ,if you have nice flavored protein powder it goes down a treat.

The blueberries are awesome.
