23 Marika KoroibeteWallabies halfback Will Genia will miss the Rebels' trip to Christchurch among a host of changes to Melbourne's starting XV this weekend. Rebels coach Dave Wessels confirmed after last week's match that Genia still had one week left in his rotation quota under the Wallabies' World Cup resting policy and it was expected that the Crusaders game would be used to fulfil that. Michael Ruru will start in Genia's place while Harrison Goddard comes onto the bench for the match. Matt To'omua has been handed the playmaking reins for the clash with Quade Cooper named on the pine, while Tom English starts on the wing. In-form winger Marika Koroibete will come off the bench in a bid to lighten his load in a big season. In the pack, Jordan Uelese gets his first start since returning from an ACL injury, while Angus Cottrell starts at blindside flanker in place of Luke Jones. The Rebels need to win one of their final two matches to secure their first finals berth and the Crusaders' clash looms as a more difficult task than a round 18 match against the Chiefs at home.

From the Crusaders media release:
BNZ Crusaders Vice-Captain Ryan Crotty is set to bring up his 150th Investec Super Rugby game this weekend, as the side prepares for their final home game of the regular season against the Rebels. The West Stand at Christchurch Stadium has been renamed the 'Ryan Crotty Stand' for this match, and members of Ryan's New Brighton Rugby Club and former school, Shirley Boys' High School, have been invited to attend. There are just two changes to the team this week, with Vice-Captain Matt Todd returning to the starting side in place of Billy Harmon, and Bryn Hall, in his 50th Crusaders game, also moving to the starting line up. Ereatara Enari will provide cover at halfback. It's also a welcome return to play for prop Tim Perry, who makes his Super Rugby return following a lengthy arm injury. Perry has been named in the No. 17 jersey.

The whole temporarily renaming stadiums and stands thing is already getting cringe worthy and its only happened a handful of times but mostly recently. A one off and unique event such as Wyatt's 200th game, sure. But since then it's been done in netball and now a stand for Crotty which a) seems kitsch and b) seems a bit of a token gesture as well. I mean a single stand, in our dump of a stadium? And I think the West Stand is the open one behind the posts as well. Wow.

I am fucked if i would sit in a Ryan Crotty stand. The fucking thing would break just before half time.

It's quite funny how some of you blokes constantly talk about Crotty breaking all the time and then look at the stats to find out that he has played 12 games this season, which is only one game less than Laumape, Ennor and Proctor; two games less than Faiane; and the same number as ALB and Nonu.
I hope I haven't jinxed him now ...

Yeah - we should f***g throw that game against the Rebels, just to be sure!
What are the odds that the Canes can pick up 10 competition points?

Saders looking poor to start, silly offloads, losing gainline. Better pull their socks up
And scrum shite

Normal service resumed ever so quickly..!

I was a bit negative about Read after last year's NH tour. I'd hoped an extended break might help bring back the Read of old, or something close, for one last fling. He's had his moments this season so far but also some obvious woopsies and that dropped pill with the line open was a shocker.

Haviliiiiiiiiii!

@shark they will be out in force, can see what Read was trying to do, change hands so he could fend, but to be honest he’s been very good in the first 15 minutes, he then chases a kick and lowers the winger with a superb tackle..it was funny though, and I think everybody could see the funny side of it

He's very much a workmanlike 8 these days though. Those silky touches of old seem to be a thing of the past.
