Latest news is that the Warriors might pull out of this years comp. Local league comps might get a boost.

@Godder I read the conduct breach was bringing them back to their hotel room. So probably not the biggest transgression in the book but a no no nonetheless.

@mikedogz really? If they do that they might find it hard to come back. They’re already unwanted.

What happened to the Kingscliff Warriors?

If they carried on got support from the NRL they could base themselves in Australia as long as it continues. Allow players to go on leave if they wish and recruit some aussie based players. The ones coming home can boost local league.

How long can the NRL continue right now? I will not be surprised if they pull the pin inside a week

For some reason they seem to really need the money. Going to the government for a bailout (apparently) and desperate to keep their league going. Surely worst case scenario is the players don't get their full salary but enough to get them through.

The NRL and the A league are flying in the face of almost every other league in the world. It must only be a matter of time before a player tests positive then they will get shut down. I'd expect they will play to empty stadiums this week

@canefan As of today, Round 2 will be played behind closed doors and then the NRL will reassess the situation.

That sounds like a soft exit to me, a-la the cricket

Their administrators must have as good judgement as their players

That was the Australian government's regulation, not the NRL's. I suppose at least Super Rugby got almost half a season in!

As a taxpayer, the NRL can eat a bag of dicks.

Are the NRL waiting for government action forcing their hand to allow for insurance or force majeure claims?

Yes. I was just answering the question, not the reason behind the NRL's decision.

The A-League is now following the NRL and wanting to continue behind closed doors, forcing the Phoenix to be based in Aust. It's all about the money not player welfare.

I wonder why the whole league has to collapse if the Warriors leave? Surely (and only if it's feasible) the other teams can continue on and just have bye weeks for Warriors games? Maybe the competition contract doesn't allow for any of the teams to be missing?

That would be idiotic. What if they had a Busby Babes scenario?

FYI: I don't know what a Busby Babes scenario is.

Also, did you miss the but where I said only if it's feasible? E.g. If it's feasible for the NRL to be run in Oz then I don't see why they can't run it just without the Warriors.

Busby's babes mostly died in the Munich air crash. Did ManU sit out the season after that?
