So 4 cases of the yearly flu is used as an excuse to lock the country down again. And you still don't see it.
What will it take.Elvis to emerge from his secret bunker on the Moon and roar into town on a Harley signing "DONALD WAS RIGHT" to the tune of Suspicious Minds waving a signed confession by Hilary, Obama and the Pope that COVID-19 is indeed a devious Illuminati mind control plot!
Bill Gates. You forgot Bill Gates, his surveillance bots in the vaccines, and how this is all designed to make him
richrichera billionaire. -
@taniwharugby It's good that they're looking further than only human-to-human transmission.
Also good to read that "the person who had tested positive hadn’t been at work for nine days after displaying flu-like symptoms".

Is that why the Lvl 3 is only for a few days? Because any damage has probably already been done? If at all?
-
@taniwharugby There was quite a bit of talk about this in China, particularly Beijing, and some follow up testing, but I haven’t seen any convincing evidence so far.

the fuck!
How convenient. The government will not not take responsibility for their border breach.

It will give them a chance to contact trace and test as many people of interest as possible, and they are softening us up for another lockdown. My pick is 14 days, but it depends on the level of penetration into the community

@raznomore and Ashley was so prescient with his "a 2nd wave is unavoidable" call...
Cool. Something to add to the conspiracy theories thread.
It was obvious to all that most of NZ (myself included) had become complacent and, given the likelihood of things reappearing, weren’t prepared enough for action when it did.
At least some listened and tried to prepare with masks etcI do agree that we are going to have to find a way of living with this. One of the biggest issues is that despite an increase we still don’t have the ICU capacity in our hospitals and wouldn’t cope with a widespread problem.
We have brought some time in the last couple of months but haven’t solved the conundrumTongue in cheek mate. Though he certainly wasn't spinning that message earlier...
Do you have any stats on what we have actually achieved during this curve flattening period? I havent seen much, for NZ or for Australia, and its pretty frustrating.

you would think one, just one, fucking journalist would ask some of these questions. But no, they are neatly divided along party lines, and attack/defend mundane bullshit.

I saw numbers in an article just the other day. Can't remember where now.
It was something like ICU beds per million and comparing countries. When this kicked off we were pretty low compared to many and although the number has increased it is still below other countries that struggled when hit.
The whole 'it only kills old people' argument is so dumb when you understand the crippling of the country that would occur having to deal with the ill that need help and how people that would currently survive because care is available would swamp the health system and then the death rate increases.
It's not just about death either. Some very long lasting damage is done that will be a burden for many years. The only answer I can see is to ride this out the best we can with these shithouse restrictions from time to time until a medical solution is found.

Police stops.
Their checkpoint in Tuakau is on the wrong side, dumb. That is Well in Waikato District. That is pretty much adding more to Auckland.
how do they checkpoint the harbour?
-
apparently the queues are over an hour long just north of Te Hana.
-
@Crucial thats the thing that people don't get. Sure old people are disproportionately affected. But the strain on the medical system in general results in a whole lot of flow on effects, extended wait times for procedures, greater risk of a hospital bed or respirator being available if your able bodied self needs it. This thing is a no win situation

One new confirmed case in managed isolation.
Four new probable cases of community transmission linked to (yesterday's) existing cases.
Of the 4 probable cases, 2 are work colleagues and 2 are in a related household that one of the cases stayed at the week prior.More new updates in this article : https://www.stuff.co.nz/national/health/coronavirus/300078922/live-ashley-bloomfield-jacinda-ardern-announce-four-more-probable-covid19-cases-linked-to-auckland-family
-
@canefan yep by BIL has cancer of oesophagus and due an op any day. His prognosis wasn't great but I reckon it just got a whole lot worse.
@voodoo pre Lvl 4 we had 153 ICU Beds across NZ - I think it is now just under 500 (including private sector)
I listened to a Radio NZ podcast a few weeks ago that talked about al the work done by the likes of Morgan / Tindall etc and it mentioned it. It also said we have significantly more respirators

my daughter flats in hamilton. a friends flat which they socialize with each day have a flatmate which had direct contact with one of the covid cases in south auckland. (this flat is getting tested)they rang the covid help line and were put on hold for two hours, to see what they should do. after a 2 minute phone call they were told there is no community transfer in hamilton and to just carry on as you were.
