Commercial Underwriting is the winning phrase, sadly for NZ

Nope, is all in the fine print. Training from day three (ish) yes, but not as an entire squad...
    Fkn stupid

At least this "Robinson also confirmed the staging of the Rugby Championship in Australia would not result in a notable revenue hit on New Zealand. “The difference between it being in New Zealand and Australia wasn’t significant, and it’s not a major for us,” he said. However, it was likely they would have to foot the quarantine bill for the team on its arrival back." so there's revenue sharing

    Robinson Rampagers 21 — Cindy Crusaders 0.

Why FFS. The NZ Govt would have been better to have just said no. The children can't play in NZ

“In New Zealand the teams land, they come into isolation for four days, from days 5-7 they’re in a bubble of 15 which doesn’t allow teams to train in full squads, and from days 8-14, they were set to be in bubble of 25 which is restrictive also and makes it difficult for the way teams want to prepare.

My point being Jacinda’s excuse for the decision comprehensively debunked by St. Mark.

    No quibble with decision itself.

@Bovidae lots of stars need to align for TRC to be played yet...in a way, it woulda been nice if the Int season was canned and for all ABs were available for the whole NPC, in L1...reckon we'd have seen crowds we haven't seen for 20 years.

Instead, this way crowds are pretty much on par with recent years ...

@booboo I know you are just taking the piss, but they will be much more down, assume other Unions have done the same as NRU who have refunded all season tickets.

Given what we saw in SRA we were primed for good crowds in NPC

Yeah I am. The crowd at NH stadium looked about normal though.

Revenue Sharing confirmed: NZR would still receive revenue from ticket sales, Rugby Australia’s interim chief executive Rob Clarke confirmed last night.

“The way Sanzaar has approached this is very much a ‘all hands in the middle’ where all expenses will be pooled and all revenue will be pooled,” Clarke said.

“The profit share will be split among the Sanzaar partners equally. It’s a very fair approach. I think it incentivises everybody to make it more successful.”

@Machpants Aside from the disappointment of not being able to actually attend, this isn't a terrible outcome for NZ. Any Covid related risk is born by NSW but NZRU still get a slice of the gate receipts.

One person gets Covid in any of the teams and the competition is over. Given the incubation period can vary, their environments and the international travel for SA and Argentina teams the border control rules were reasonable. You can’t be moaning about border controls being the weakness and then open the door. Mark Robinson will be disappointed but he should pull his head in. NZRU has a privileged position and they should play the long game. As with their his ultimatum to ARU, this just speaks to their arrogance.

How is that possible if they are in a quarantine bubble?

@kev pull his head in? He's just started the facts as to why NZ lost out to hosting vs Oz. Quarantine requirements. So what is he supposed to say when asked? Yeah we lost due to SANZAAR politics

@antipodean if a team is in a bubble together then the whole team will be quarantined and unable to play. One team not being able to play means the competition in full form can’t continue.

Which isn't negated by the following, nor the Australian solution:

“In New Zealand the teams land, they come into isolation for four days, from days 5-7 they’re in a bubble of 15 which doesn’t allow teams to train in full squads, and from days 8-14, they were set to be in bubble of 25 which is restrictive also and makes it difficult for the way teams want to prepare.

@Machpants what he should be concerned about is the safety of players. Someone here said that 7 of the Argentina squad have been infected. So the advice from the NZ medical professionals was 3 days individual quarantining, followed by smaller group bubbles ( we currently require 14 days Individually from everyone) was required. So is he asking us to adjust our rules for rugby players? ....Is he going to add to that special treatment for millionaires, foreign students....when families can’t see sick loved ones....Mark Robinson should suck it up like everyone else and say the NZRU does not expect special treatment. The rules were set by the same medical professionals (not the Government) whose advice has given us one the best Covid results in the world. Certainly not perfect but caution has paid huge dividends. I would have loved for the games to be in NZ but following advice from those whose job it is to provide that advice, not special interest groups with vested interests, is the minimum I expect from the Government.

As well as this the NZRU have made a mess of negotiations re Super Rugby - they are and should be under pressure.

NZRU made a mess of the negotiations. Mark Robinson is a nice guy but looks out of his depth.

But they were dealt a bad hand of the NZ government who should be doing much, much more to support and faciliate professional sport, especially Rugby, in New Zealand. The cancellation of the Blues-Crusaders game (it should have happened behind closed doors) for a handful of cases was a terrible over-reaction when the risk to and from players was almost zero. No wonder sponsors and insurers were so nervous about the Rugby Championship in New Zealand. If New Zealand had a Prime Minister who genuinely loved Rugby and the All Blacks, the Rugby Championship would be taking place this year in NZ.

@Machpants I thought the whinging would have stopped when Cheika left. Rennie is sounding more and more Aussie every day.

Rennie was a whinger when coaching in NZ. Don't see why coaching Australia would change that.

Well he knows his career in NZ is dead.
