@shark did you not say it was Rameka Poihipi and Isaiah Punivai? Embarrassing.

Thompson has been a bloody good player for 5-6 seasons. He may have been below par this year but he's still put together a much, much more impressive body of work than Walden.

Yeah who cares if he's playing awful, he was great in 2019. That's really sound thinking. Wonder why he fell off a cliff this year? Almost like he was made to look even better by a player inside him...

You must be all over the NMS signing, I mean how good was he 5 years ago?

@Bones I hope Thompson wasn’t let go just because on one poor season

Mentions in articles about the post covid financials the reason for dropping a coaching role altogether.
I'd look for salary reasons first when looking at these player departures.

@Bones Wow, this is getting ugly. Poihipi has played for the Crusaders Development side, or Crusader Knights. As the following excerpt from a story in The Star from a couple of weeks ago on a recently named Canterbury side says:

There are only two players missing Super Rugby exposure - Newell and midfielder Rameka Poihipi.

Should I take it that any player who makes a development team is "Super Rugby level" as you said earlier??

And likewise I Punivai. A Crusaders Development squad member, and he played a pre season game.

I don't even know why I'm debating this with you Bones. We ALL know Poihipi and Isaiah Punivai are barely established in the Canterbury squad FFS, let alone the Crusaders.

His recent sprint training with Owen Franks really paid off

Yep. You'd have thought the lack of corn rows would have tipped Bones off, but he was so busy beating himself off over finding pics of Poihipi and a Punivai in Crusaders strips that he couldn't let the facts get in the way of his great story.

Haha! Well I got owned huh.

I guess that's it then. Walden wasn't the best back besides Smith/Ioane and the Highlanders are much better off without him. Where we will struggle is replacing the massive impact Thompson had this year.

Here's hoping whoever replaces Mauger can step up to match his sterling selection policy and guidance.
