China have just inflicted wartime damage to the US economy without firing a single bullet!
The yanks gonna take that lying down?
Glenn Beck says the government is spending 600 billion a day on buying bonds and something like by September they will " own" everybody's debt in the US. 32.4% unemployment is predicted in a few months. Money is being created digitally at a rate impossible to print - not enough trees. Apparently the sterling* is getting printed frantically right now.*My prediction is if Trump wins (beats the deep state who have sold out to China) then China is f++ked. And the US will boom.
Money isn't printed today. It created by journal entries. And the US can easily handle two or three times the current Govt debt levels. And easily create all the money needed. But don't buy back Govt bonds. If needed buy non Govt bonds at fair prices as is (hopefully) being done. Thanks to Trump and his team
Modern Money Theory is really no more than an explanation of the reality of the money system today. That most idiotic economists haven't a clue about.
If Trump wins what? He's already president, has been for quite a while, and by his own accounts he's been doing an amazing job, the best ever in fact: so why is China not fucked already?

The echo chamber I'm in (Rubin, Murray, Hitchens, John Anderson, Niall Ferguson) spend a lot of time expressing grave concerns for the big economies.
America is going to be thrown into a wartime recession and in 6 months time they are going to be an angry and desperate collection of people.
Like all big countries in a time of internal turmoil they're going to need an external distraction. They often use their military for that.
There's got to be a backlash to the butthurt the US is going to have over the next year and only one place really caused this much carnage.
- help jc, rage and others, I don't know what this or Modern Monetary Theory is or even if beck is super credible, but even I'm dumb enough to know that life doesn't just click back to pre March life after an economic shake up like this).
Beck is full of shit if he’s using amounts like $600bn per day. The total QE is expected to buy back $500bn in bonds with another $200bn in mortgage backeds in total. They are also supporting $300bn in new programs, 10% of which is equity provided by Treasury.

Lots of activity in here. Welcome aboard new US politics fans!
I've done some catch-up on the whole 'disinfectant' thing after listening to the Rogan/Pool interview, certainly an interesting moment in politics.
Here's the now deleted article which talked about H2O2 nebulisation therapy:
And twitter threads on the biotech company that was looking into UV-A treatment via catheter for coronavirus and other pathogens, which had their videos removed by youtube/vimeo and their account suspended by twitter, then reinstatated.
Quite a few concerns on this whole mess.
Trump probably shouldn't be riffing in press updates during a crisis. Its a time for accuracy and carefully chosen words, not for showboating.
Media probably shouldn't be exaggerating/making shit up just for clicks..especially during a crisis
Though most of all I'm concerned with this deletion of articles/videos and account suspensions that happened to show some evidence of support for the US presidents views. If he's wrong let him be wrong on his own merits, this underhanded stuff just makes everything look like a conspiracy.
Don't really see it hurting him much, Trump fans hardly trust the media as is. Media has long gone past the ability to report fairly in order to actually hurt him when he does mess up. Maybe him taking that unusual backward step by claiming it was a 'sarcastic question' might make him look weak..seriously don't know wtf he was doing there.
Anyway I'm sure the world will move on to a new Trumpian outrage in the next few days.

@Frank it's certainly an impressive ratio of completely unsubstantiated allegations per sentence. Not sure if that makes it superb.
That is the guy who said Obama was for Sharia and should be impeached yeah? The article is at least trying to provide an explanation

I'm not a lawyer.
But in my gut I'm unable to work out how legally Govts can start arresting healthy people etc for say attending a church service. Or taking their children to the park. Otherwise it means that Govts can do what they want without restriction and the people have no rights whatsoever.
Maybe the legal action will start soon esp in the US. One example
Deprivation Of Rights Under Color Of Law
Summary:Section 242 of Title 18 makes it a crime for a person acting under color of any law to willfully deprive a person of a right or privilege protected by the Constitution or laws of the United States. For the purpose of Section 242, acts under "color of law" include acts not only done by federal, state, or local officials within the their lawful authority, but also acts done beyond the bounds of that official's lawful authority, if the acts are done while the official is purporting to or pretending to act in the performance of his/her official duties. Persons acting under color of law within the meaning of this statute include police officers, prisons guards and other law enforcement officials, as well as judges, care providers in public health facilities,

@Winger I’m also not sure of the official legal position across the US (or even if it has to be done at state level) but I suspect that under a state of emergency type situation a different latitude exists.
Something similar to how during war time a draft can be enacted depriving freedom rights for the declared “greater good”
Don’t have the time to research myself at the moment but perhaps you could do so and report back? -

yep, hence the declaration of a public health emergency. I think that deprivation of liberty comes during public health crises, and during civil defence emergencies only. They keys for me are they have to be temporary and clearly linked to prevention measures

If this thread is anything to go by, Trump's ploy of diverting the general narrative and dividing the focus is working. It has become so normal to hear him state untruths and totally incorrect facts that there is now hardly a reaction. Perhaps people are tired of being shouted down or called names should they question what is unquestionably wrong? Even Trump says that reporters are 'nasty' for pointing out that the emperor may have no clothes on.
Those of you that have somehow brought into this rubbish that he is hard done by, targeted unfairly or is just playing everybody in a clever way, answer this.
Why is it that he cannot take or address any question from any reporter that does not fit a lie or questions a lie that he has just uttered?
Why does he insist on playing with lives by not offering clear leadership around the largest crisis to hit the US in 70 years? Is that being cunning?
Why does he retweet extreme right wing conspiracy theories if he supposedly isn't 'extreme' himself (or have sympathetic views)
Why does a 73 year old man that is (by his own accounts) smart, intelligent and a great deal maker, continue to call others by childish names?
Why does he feel that he can publicly accuse people of crimes without a shred of evidence, and even tag them with the name 'pyscho'?The guy is an asshat, plain and simple.
I can understand how he got voted in out of two unsavoury options and how some would have taken a chance that disruption was possibly going to turn out better for them than the status quo. I can even understand how some may have reason to believe that he isn't just riding an economic upturn that was already trending up before he took power. I can also understand how some elements of the media aren't impartial when it comes to reporting on every wrong thing he does no matter how minor.
What I can't understand is how people can in any shape or form not see that he is a complete narcissist. Everything he does, he asks himself whether he can insist on praise afterward whether deserved or not. Are people really happy to ignore the leader of the country not just bending the occasional truth (as all politicians do) but outright lying very single day then refusing to address questioning about the lies? Do they not see danger in having a Commander in Chief of a very large military who has thin skin, throws tantrums and ignores advice?
Can they not see that the so-called 'drainer of the swamp' has simply created his own swamp beside the one that was there and populated it with his friends and family? In short even if you dislike any degree of left political views and are fully believing that the economy is the solution to all, can you not also see what an asshat the man is and stop deriding those that dislike him with cries that they are deranged?
The derangement lies elsewhere.Rant over.

Dipping my toe into US Politics thread with some trepidation - but do you have a feel for whether you think he'll get re-elected in November? I was convinced he didn't have a hope the first time around, but it turns out that I know nothing about this (like almost everyone else)

Some interesting things coming out of polling and surveys at the moment (which may mean nothing come election time) but he is well behind in the swing states at the moment.
Also, the potentially most telling one is if people who dislike both he and Biden are pushed to a decision it is 70% in favour of Biden (according to one poll). The comparative at the last election (those that dislike Clinton and Trump) was 55% in favour of Trump. My view is that when people that aren't happy are offered an option of change they tend to go for it. That happened last time.
EDIT: What I really fear for is that if he does lose, he and his extreme supporters will not accept the outcome. The divisions and nastiness have increased during his tenure (partly driven and encouraged by him). It could get really ugly. Way uglier than just Fox News having an agenda against Biden.

3.30pm, last day of L3. Crucial is cleaning out the garage, the very last job he has left on his list of lockdown chores.
As he finishes polishing the last of his knives, he discovers a case of 76 Grange and thinks "well fuck me - what better way to spend the last day of L3 than firing up those Trump-loving fuckwits. I've got a case of red and all night to play with. Let's fucking go"
Enjoy it bro, you've earned it 😬
