Pretty disappointing effort from the Windies after the openers showed nice application last night. Holder will be especially disappointed that his bowlers didn't use the conditions as effectively as ours. Follow on feels like the right decision. Massive lead and a pitch that should only get easier to bat on. Batting last probably an advantage overall. We've basically taken 9 wickets in a little over a session so massive momentum with the bowlers.

That low catch looked fine to me. Wasn't much doubt about it was there?

Yep, not quite sure why Bishop is repeating that there will be some discussion around it like it will be controversial. It was very close to the ground, but I thought he always had fingers between the ball and the ground

    agree

I'd love to see public guidance on this (and forward passes in teh rugby, for that matter). Show people what's OK ... foreshortening always makes those look dodgy as, but they're usually clean

    "Absolutely, enjoy this team."
Oh so this is not actually a thread on NZ cricket then. I don't know where I'll be if I have to actually enjoy the national cricket team, they have unselfishlessly given me about 4 decades of ammo. I blame Geoff Howarth for giving up the booze, the rot started setting in from that moment. Oh, that and wearing glasses. Sheer, clear-sighted madness. (He was as close as we ever got to a groggy Tim Brooke Taylor who'd stumble out of bed, and still pull out an actually clever tactical stratagem).

Dang, we've missed out on a chance to dismiss Blackwood twice in a session.

Jamieson looks to be a great allrounder in the making.

Ball is still hooping around even though its 63 overs old.

Do we enforce follow on? I think we do if the conditions remain the same.

I would bat unless rain is expected. Put on a quick 150, rest the bowlers, wear out the opposition.

Ordinarily I would agree. Here though the ball is hooping around like mad, and we've already had some rain. I think the play is to finish it off asap.

Kolkata 2001 (?) showed us how followons can go poorly. If the bowlers get tired, things can get away from you. That said, given we're halfway through the day and have some rain, I think it's arguable to enforce. But, Tim has bowled 17 overs already... it starts to add up quickly.

One miracle innings everyone is scared of the obvious course of action.

We're not in Indian conditions. We're in nice comfortable NZ. Not too hot. Seam friendly. Bowlers not overworked. Windies need 500 to even make it interesting.

    Enforce!

And I'm in no way pointing at 30 for 4 as justification.

The decision was to my mind obvious.

That ball was vicious. That would have gotten most batsmen out. If Jamieson can keep doing that he'll have a hell of a career.

Mitchell gets his first test wicket, being Holder. 89/6, Boult back into the attack, three wickets needed as the West Indian keeper is out injured and can't bat.
