Yeah, I'd be curious if Hansen was asked how he rated that performance because in crucial moments I thought we were poor. Now a 17 point win after leading the entire game, where the only real challenge game during a yellow card period means we certainly performed well during large periods. But I thought there were several points where we didn't bring the same intensity or attention to detail that we had in the past - specifically at the beginning and ending of that yellow, and taking sensible options after breaks so ball can be recycled.

A lot more little mental lapses than we are used to - Bender's card was another, Carter missing touch on the penalty etc.

Fucks sake man, I thought your whinge last week was over the top but this is ridiculous. They just won the fucking cup, who cares if they made some mistakes, so long as they got the win in the end.

Not sure about the SA game, but watching back the first half of this one now, I noticed in a maul-looking thing where he picked one of Mumm's legs up and didn't release once Mumm was on the deck. Wasn't really a cleanout at ruck as the ball hadn't hit the deck yet. You see the odd one-leg cleanout at a ruck, but this was odd in terms of execution.

Having watched the first half - we had basically two lineouts in the first half in a reasonable position, and fluffed both of them. Can't win playing like that. EDIT: especially with 30% possession that half.

Though it must be said, just before the 39th minute try I thought we deserved a turnover - BBBR ran it up, Fardy hands on ball, with Pocock right there, on their feet. Carter trying to clean out to no effect, Conrad joins in then Owens called "ball lost" after a couple of seconds. We'd won a couple of those earlier in the half and that one looked the cleanest of the lot.

On balance though, Kepu's shot around Carter's chops was a very fortunate outcome for us, not being a yellow.

Biggest issue for the Wallabies was loss of Douglas and Giteau. The former is one of our defensive lynch pins, and the latter helps run things smoothly. Personally I would have put Toomua on at inside centre from that point, although Beale had a pretty good game.

If Giteau was so important to organising your defence why was he defending at the hookers position at lineouts?

Anyone know the time of that Pocockwomble stomp? Before I crucify him too much I'd like to see if he looked down.

Watching the replay. 65 minute mark, after we had many chances to put them away, we were under big pressure. What a time for the team to stand up and especially DC. Amazing droppie out of nowhere and that penalty to make it 27-17, HUGE. And I love Beauden Barrett's pace

Indeed, which is why I was screaming at the tv when we kicked possession away - thankfully we righted that fairly swiftly.

The point was simply for all the talk about mental skills, thinking under pressure, saving the best performance for the final and us bumrushing them in the final 20 with better mental and physical conditioning it didn't really work out the way we thought or Shag intended.

I could not give two hoots if we won by 1 or 21. Maybe the pressure of a RWC Final is not the right conditions to play a "perfect" game of rugby. The fact many thought they could is a tremendous compliment.

Just saw the Ben Smith incident again - to his credit, even on the slowmo you can see he's realised it went badly, and tried to lower the leg.

Can't remember what minute (60-odd), but at the end of a sustained period of Wallaby attack, the AB's looked absolutely shattered - Whitelock, Kaino, Charlie (who had just come on), all sucking massive ones.

I still can't believe the Wallabies took the physical stuff for 50mins, then came back with that - it was Ali going to ropes all over again - almost.

Nope. I'm typing words on a forum discussion where someone (could have been you, I didn't look) mentioned Giteaus importance.
My view is that if that is the case it seemed strange to move him like they did.
If you care to reply to that feel free to do so.

It's simple, you have to give the opposition credit for disrupting our plans.

How we dealt with pressure was pretty impressive. You are going to make mistakes, but we recovered quickly and never looked like panicking.
