Beta alanine
-
Was listening to the Joe Rogan podcast with CrossFit legend Matt Fraser. He swears by beta alanine as a pre workout. Anyone tried it before?
-
@rancid-schnitzel its in a lot of pre-workout. Gives you the tingles aka the spiders lol. Combined with caffeine its pretty much the 'stim' part of many formulas. Then add in creatine etc plus all the other shit.
Man, before it was regulated there were some gnarly pre-workouts around. Pretty much low key speed đ damn effective!!
-
Couldnât think of anything worse with my heart problems but if it works then give it a hoon !

This sounds pretty good. If I take it, do I absolutely have to do the workout afterwards, or is that part optional?

Either that or go to a rave
-
@voodoo once that shit is firing through your system training is the only way!! too bad if you decide you didn't want to work out after all ha ha.
-
Yeah used to be in all the pre workouts but not as popular nowdays. Actually itâs probably still on most stuff but I donât ever feel beta alanine unless I take more than about 3 grams worth. Think tolerance has built up over the past 10 years or so

Yep used to be some amazing stuff around especially the MDMA variants but it was basically party pills and heavily unregulated. Things have certainly changed.
And no itâs not just for workouts. There are formulas now for gaming etc which enhance focus and reaction times etc.

That stuff is pretty low grade but if its first time using then will prob be reasonably impactful. It's quite balanced in that it includes a little bit of everything but probably not quite enough of any of it.
For example - recommended dose of BA is about 3grams (this stuff has 1.2 per serve) and creatine is at least 5g (also has just 1.2) so you would need excessive servings to get the benefit. But excessive servings wouldn't be good as it has 250mg of caffeine per serving and unless you are super tolerant of coffee etc, you prob dont want to go too much in excess of that.
-
@jk we still rock C4 as the best combo of stim + creatine etc. I pretty much use it for the boost rather than recovery or as part of taking enough creatine to help with bulking. But when you are short on sleep and energy a couple of scoops will light the fire for you lol.
Man, there was this 'thermo' fat burner stuff... I think it was called Dynamite? a blue bottle. But that was just like E... or so I've heard. The ol wild west of unregulated products was fun but absolutely ridiculous.

Definitely felt some lift off before boot camp this morning! Itâs good stuff but I can see how it could wear off. When Iâm done with this Iâll get something a little more potent. I have a decent local health shop but Iâm reluctant to go on there after I started buying my protein online. Had a good rapport with the owner and feel bad. But when youâre saving 10 bucks a bag and have your choice of flavours what can you do!

Yeah that was V2 of Detonate. Current version is rubbish!
I remember having a couple of the old version and then an arvo on the beers. Ended up running in to the wife early evening and she actually thought I was on crack!

@jk that was it!! two pills of that shit and it was giddy up central!!
-
what is the stuff lifters inhale prior to a lift?
-
@taniwharugby that's ammonia/smelling salts. Just to really wake you the fuck up lol. I haven't tried it but a couple of my fav youtube fitness folks use it a lot. More often powerlifters and strongmen. Ya know, guys just like us
-
@paekakboyz yeah I was down at a clients gym earlier watching Colm Woulfe dead >400kg and he was using it before his heavier lifts.

Thatâs not much, only about 170kg more than my best.

Took it before weights this morning and was shaking like Steady Eddie. Wow, if this is the weak stuff the heavy shit must send you to the moon! Tastes nice as well.
Will be interesting to see how I go with swimming intervals tomorrow morning. Canât believe I havenât tried this stuff before.

@rancid-schnitzel what did it do to your performance during workout?

Big difference was not being fatigued between sets. I was buzzing the entire time. I had a very strong coffee when driving my son to swimming this morning and then may have had a bit more than the recommended dose of preworkout. Whatever the case, it did the job!
-
@rancid-schnitzel double scoop bro, this is the whey đ€Ł
-
yeah you will be two scooping before too long if you dont watch out.
I keep a number of different pre-workouts on the go so always alternating between them and usually what I am training will drive which pre workout I am using, ie I will go with something that doesnt have a lot of pump inducing ingredients when I am doing deadlifts but if smashing shoulders or arms then its all about the pump.
Usually routine is pre-workout first thing in the morning before training and then I'm having a coffee now whilst getting the work underway for the day. Find this also helps any crash or comedown too but only get that on some of the older style or 'dirty' pre-workouts and you won't find many of those on the shelves nowadays anyway.
And then my 1pm....post lunch pick me up. Not a preworkout but more of a fat burner with good focus. And before I know it the days over!

So took the gear before swim intervals this morning and damn it did the job. Was absolutely smashing it. Talked to Coach Hitler about it and he was also a user but reiterated what has been mentioned here that the effects wear off.
Youngest is playing volleyball at stupid oâclock tomorrow morning so have to get my run in before the swim. Will be interesting to see how that goes with the PEDs.

When my mate worked at the supplement place in town I remember one called the Curse which literally made your skin prickle. Then again some of the others didnât seem to effect me at all. I guess it all comes down to your metabolism/genetic make up.
Those Mushashi protein bars are all I bother with now and they do the trick and then some. With the amount of time I spend on the road with work itâs easy to grab one from a servo.

Musahi is generally great quality all round. Expensive unfortunately. Those who are sponsored by them are bloody lucky. I always get one of those thick 45g of protein bars on the weekend. Very nice đ

The Salted Caramel one is genuinely delicious, other flavours way less so. Certainly not ideal instead of actual food long term but 45 grams of the good stuff is not to be sniffed at.
