@mn5 It's a shame Georgia or Romania haven't been given a chance in the 6 Nations at least one year. Guaranteed 6 Nations Rugby is not helping Italian Rugby to progress. Promotion and relegation between two European 6 Nations champions the way to go IMHO.

Absolutely. Italy are fucken shite. The much vaunted Sergio Parisse played 142 tests AND LOST 106 OF THOSE !!!!!!

I can see Georgia or Romania knocking off more of the Five Nations teams than they ever did.

    Except they don't

Italy and everyone else beats them

    Nice story though

Italy and Georgia have only played twice and not since 2018.

Georgia are currently ranked two places above Italy at the moment: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/World_Rugby_Rankings

Italy didn't play Georgia in 2020 but Fiji beat Georgia 38-24 and Italy beat Fiji 28-0

Both Italy and Georgia got stuffed by the 6 Nations teams

    Autumn Internationals 2020 Rugby Fixtures

    Autumn Internationals 2020 Rugby Fixtures

The 2020 Autumn International rugby matches were replaced by a new eight-team tournament – the Autumn Nations Cup – which featured the Six Nations teams plus Fiji and Georgia.

@mikethesnow I think the only way for promotion/relegation to work would be a promotion/relegation match between the lowest ranked 6N team and the highest ranked Rugby Europe Championship team. Just like you, I'd expect the bottom ranked 6N team (Italy since 2016) to win that one at the moment. Georgia just isn't strong enough (yet). I'm all for playing a tier 2 team like Georgia on our Northern Tour, but not because I'd expect them to be stronger than Italy.

And have it as a mid-week match in between a couple of tier 1 tests so the ABs are ‘forced’ to play less first choice players.

Considering Retallick's injury, Whitelock should be kept in cottonwool before the Irish and French tests. I'd go with :

    MacKenzie
    Reece
    Ennor
    Havili
    Bridge
    Mo'unga
    Christie
    Sotutu
    Cane (capt)
    Jacobson
    Vaai'i
    Lord
    Ofa T / Lomax
    Coles
    Bower

    Sub :
    Aumua
    Karl T
    Ofa T / Lomax
    Frizzel
Ioane (Jacobson to 7 if Cane cannot make the 80)
    Weber
    Tupaea
Jordan (DMac to 1st Five if Mo'unga has to be replaced)

has De Groot left? If still avail, I'd have him there..Ofa T to ride the pine..

    Mine:

    MacKenzie
    Reece
    Ennor
    Havili
    Bridge
    Mo'unga
    Christie
    Sotutu
    Cane (capt)
    Frizzel
    Vaai'i
    Whitelock
    Ofa T / Lomax
    Coles
Moody/Karl/Bower (Do first two want game time?)

    Sub :
    Aumua
    Bower/De Groot
    Ofa T / Lomax
    Lord
    Jacobson
    Weber
    Tupaea
Jordan (DMac to 1st Five if Mo'unga has to be replaced

No, as he will start against Ireland.

Needs a starting job in this one then as a warm up. Havili can be on bench.

Prep and mindset as a starter is different to the bench.

Ta'avao might be fit for selection too.

We never heard if Ofa was injured or just not selected for the Welsh test.

We did hear, he was unavailable for Wales

I noticed he had very good handling yesterday. A couple of nice soft flick ons. BBBR used to have that as well.

@sparky I'd rather start Cane - he needs game time. I'd probably run Akira off the bench again - I think the impact sub role could suit him so i'd give him another crack at it.

@kiwimurph I am really not sure Cane is fit to start. I think all we will get out of him in 2021 is as impact sub. Of course, the coaches will be in a much better position to assess his match fitness.

Cane has already said via the media that he won't be available for this game and is aiming for the last two tests.

    @machpants

From an article on Stuff of 26 October 2021:

Cane, on Tuesday (NZT) from Cardiff, revealed a planned timeline between he and coach Ian Foster that has him regrouping following his return to test footy via a half-hour off the bench in the 104-14 romp over the USA in Washington DC at the weekend.

By his own admission, Cane is still not ready for a full-blown test against a tier-1 nation, such as this weekend’s clash against Wales at a sold-out Principality Stadium in Cardiff, after a six-month rehabilitation from shoulder surgery to repair a pectoral muscle tear.

But he hopes the next fortnight will nudge him close enough for the selectors to at least have something to think about ahead of that brutal finish against Ireland in Dublin (November 13) and France in Paris (November 20).
