Guildford to start for Tahs v Reds

Very interesting that Paddy Ryan is starting at loosehead, and we've got two looseheads on the bench. Can only think that either he or Ta'avao will play the whole game, or Tilse has converted to THP.

Super Rugby debut for the talent Mr Horwitz, and Jed Holloway starts at 8 ahead of Palu (not sure if he's injured again or rested) with youngster Jack Dempsey on the bench.

Good looking Tahs squad. Reds are doomed.

-

I see today Graham's biggest supporter left the board, so there could be a mid-season review if (when) the Reds completely suck again

-

For those in Oz without FoxSports, I believe this match is being replayed on ONE HD at 0800 Sunday morning.

-

Reds team to take on the Waratahs:

1. Ben Daley 2. Saia Fainga’a 3. Greg Holmes 4. Cadeyrn Neville (Queensland debut) 5. Rob Simmons (C) 6. Hendrik Tui 7. Curtis Browning 8. Jake Schatz

9. Nick Frisby 10. Jake McIntyre 11. Eto Nabuli (Queensland/Super Rugby debut) 12. Henry Taefu Queensland/Super Rugby debut) 13. Samu Kerevi 14. Chris Feauai-Sautia 15. Karmichael Hunt

Reserves

16. Andrew Ready 17. Sef Fa’agase 18. Sam Talakai 19. Ben Matwijow (Queensland/Super Rugby debut) 20. Michael Gunn 21. Scott Gale 22. Sam Greene 23. Ayumu Goromaru (Queensland/Super Rugby debut)
-

Frisby is a good name for a halfback.

-

It will be interesting to see if Guildford pans out better than Anesi.

-

Gill out for a month in Reds land. Massive loss for them in terms of defense.

Reds lineout probably better than ours, scrum might be as well because I don't think I've ever seen Paddy at LHP. Tahs should have too much class and experience through the backline BUT that relies on Beale and the rookie having good games.

Horne versus Kerevi at 13 should be interesting: broad sword versus battle hammer...
-

If the tahs don't walk this questions should be asked. A Reds team full of not-quite or who-the fuck? players, with shit halves, coached by a coach with a proven losing record, should not pose a problem for a team with finals aspirations.

-

And that is the general consensus among the logical.

But even at their shittest, the Reds pulled off a couple of wins against us that should never have happened.

I've got faith in Gibson - nearly as much as Cheika - and think he'll earn even more of my trust based on the manner of our game play.

Also looking forward to Jed Holloway finally getting a run at his preferred position for the Tahs. Only 23, 195cm, 116kg and could be a long-term option as a genuine 8. Decent turn of pace as well. Been around for a couple of years but Palu going offshore has created this opportunity. Will have Dennis and Hooper for support in the back row, along with Mumm, Skelton, and TPN to shoulder a lot of the work up front.

One thing is for sure: we've got a shitload of ball-carrying in that pack.
-

The Tahs are eminently capable of being brought down to the level of their opposition.

-

If the Tahs can manage Guildford's serious issues where every single other team has 'failed', then hats off to them.

Waratahs putting up an early lead.

Need the win and the Sharks to win by 10 or more to complete my multi so I'm paying attention -

Reds coming back a little judging by the online feed, but they've got RG for a coach so ....

Tahs were great in the first half, but just seemed to switch off at half time (Carrarro-Beale magic aside.) Scrum will be a concern.

Watching replay now. Waratahs win the game with a combined total of 20 minutes of good play.

Reds looked better at set piece. But I didn't like the scrum selections from Gibson anyway.

Apparently Benn Robinson broke his nose so won't play this week against the Ponies.

Not that it matters - neither of these teams will beat the Ponies based on last night. -

I missed the game, but see Goromaru scored some points off the bench, which no doubt means that all TV shows will be fellating him repeatedly for the next week. So, people who watched, was he any good?

Little impact from what I saw. The Waratahs seemed to just go through the motions once they got to an early 20-0 lead. Glad we let Ta'avao go from the Blues. Awful scrummager.
-

You'd certainly back him to pack some punch coming off the bench
-

Wait, why is that useless muppet Graham still coaching the Reds? Weren't they looking for a new coach last year? Was he the only <strike>guy</strike> <strike>human</strike> <strike>mammal</strike> <strike>animal</strike> object in <strike>Australia</strike> <strike>the world</strike> the galaxy who applied or something? I'd take a moon rock as a coach over him.

-
His mate Jim Carmichael is still in the top job I think, so he survived his review. They keep playing like that, be won't survive week 6
-

Thought Zac played pretty well in what was a fairly benign game where the result was never in doubt. The commentators did their best to try and make it sound like there was more to it than it actually was. The Reds have a lot of young talented players but they are a couple seasons away from being a team that can play at a high level together. They may surprise a team or two this year and may 'lift' for the derby matches with Force/Rebels but I see them getting smashed in a few games this year.

-
But the Reds have had "young, talented players" for a few years now. Under RG they're just going down

It reminds of the years before Link turned up in QLD. Year after year it was "next year" for the Reds.

They look like they really lack some experience in the backs. Instead of signing Goromaru who is debuting at this level himself and ex leaguie's like Karmichael Hunt (from last year) and the ex-league winger signed for this year, they would have been better off chasing a back or two with strong Super experience.

Stephen Moore as a signing next year in the forwards is a start.
-
