Very interesting that Paddy Ryan is starting at loosehead, and we've got two looseheads on the bench. Can only think that either he or Ta'avao will play the whole game, or Tilse has converted to THP.
Super Rugby debut for the talent Mr Horwitz, and Jed Holloway starts at 8 ahead of Palu (not sure if he's injured again or rested) with youngster Jack Dempsey on the bench.

Reds lineout probably better than ours, scrum might be as well because I don't think I've ever seen Paddy at LHP. Tahs should have too much class and experience through the backline BUT that relies on Beale and the rookie having good games.
 
Horne versus Kerevi at 13 should be interesting: broad sword versus battle hammer...

If the tahs don't walk this questions should be asked. A Reds team full of not-quite or who-the fuck? players, with shit halves, coached by a coach with a proven losing record, should not pose a problem for a team with finals aspirations.

But even at their shittest, the Reds pulled off a couple of wins against us that should never have happened.
 
I've got faith in Gibson - nearly as much as Cheika - and think he'll earn even more of my trust based on the manner of our game play.
 
 
Also looking forward to Jed Holloway finally getting a run at his preferred position for the Tahs. Only 23, 195cm, 116kg and could be a long-term option as a genuine 8. Decent turn of pace as well. Been around for a couple of years but Palu going offshore has created this opportunity. Will have Dennis and Hooper for support in the back row, along with Mumm, Skelton, and TPN to shoulder a lot of the work up front.
 
One thing is for sure: we've got a shitload of ball-carrying in that pack.

Watching replay now. Waratahs win the game with a combined total of 20 minutes of good play. 
Reds looked better at set piece. But I didn't like the scrum selections from Gibson anyway. 
Apparently Benn Robinson broke his nose so won't play this week against the Ponies. 
Not that it matters - neither of these teams will beat the Ponies based on last night.

Little impact from what I saw. The Waratahs seemed to just go through the motions once they got to an early 20-0 lead. Glad we let Ta'avao go from the Blues. Awful scrummager.

ACT Crusader

Thought Zac played pretty well in what was a fairly benign game where the result was never in doubt. The commentators did their best to try and make it sound like there was more to it than it actually was. The Reds have a lot of young talented players but they are a couple seasons away from being a team that can play at a high level together. They may surprise a team or two this year and may 'lift' for the derby matches with Force/Rebels but I see them getting smashed in a few games this year.

It reminds of the years before Link turned up in QLD. Year after year it was "next year" for the Reds. 
 
They look like they really lack some experience in the backs. Instead of signing Goromaru who is debuting at this level himself and ex leaguie's like Karmichael Hunt (from last year) and the ex-league winger signed for this year, they would have been better off chasing a back or two with strong Super experience.
 
Stephen Moore as a signing next year in the forwards is a start.

Yep. Palu is back on the bench this week, so it may have been a passing comet in terms of fantasy rugby scoring. Shame really - I don't know why we've got Palu back who has been a great servant for us, but is hardly going to help with generational change.
