you go for the one handed jump and intercept, you better be sure you had a good chance to get it. I don't think he did.
Agree the shoulder should have been looked at- but it's not super clear cut; it's jumping into a player as much as teh Brumby smashing him.
Too little too late though, the game is lost by then. Brumbies play some good structured rugby, but open up nicely as well.

@nzzp for me, I liken it to a poor pass from your team, you bat it up/back/forward and as you attempt to regather, are tackled by the opposition, so treat as a knock on...however in this case, it wasnt a tackle, so warranted further investigation.
As above, I thought the ref handled the game bloody well, but a few errors crept in at the end, not influencing the win/loss, but possibly a BP.

That the best description of what happened. Should have been a knock on call, and perhaps a reversed penalty for the shoulder charge.

Rayasi was clearly attempting to catch the ball, so was a joke he got yellow carded... also shortly after that it was obvious the Brumbies player lost the ball just before the goal line, yet the officials awarded a try.
It's bad enough that the game is ruined with too many offsides, players killing the ball on the deck & forward passes... now the refs are handing out yellow cards like bloody lollies in this comp, also trying their best to turn a fair few of those yellows into reds.

Yeah, it appears to me the Tahs and Brumbies have adopted a more NH approach and play just as you outlined. Has been effective vs the AB's so no surprise they are getting some success vs NZ super teams.

@antipodean it was actually NZ that showed the best moments in a game to score points is transition and NZ sides tend to kick more than anyone.
Rugby stopped being about 'playing' when the blokes started weighing 120kg. That and Saracens high (consistently offside) defensive line that was then adopted by England.
Cheika went all in on that 'Australian way' bullshit and we went backwards, fast. Glad to see a little more pragmatism.
Plus if that Valetini try isn't playing rugby I dunno what is.

There's two problems with your argument here.
- Brumbies don't [play looking for counterattack opportunities.
- Four of the bottom six teams so far in the competition for carries are Australian, not New Zealand sides. The same teams that are lowest for metres run with the ball. For defenders beaten, five of the lowest six are Australian, so if Aussie sides aren't kicking it as often, you'd have to ask what they're doing with the ball.

Individual brilliance against a donkey. A back humiliated by being beaten in a footrace. None of that was coached at the Brumbies.

You don't have to play boring safe rugby to win, reckon the best way to win matches is a balance of good forward play & attack with your backs when it's on, you're giving yourself a lot more attacking options, that's the main reason why the Crusaders have won so many Super titles over the years.
Nothing wrong with Canes backrow, they clearly have the skill sets... in general we just didn't play that well overall.
Brumbies use to be really robotic when George Gregan was their halfback... as we know he use to basically execute very short inside passes all day long to either a forward or back running up the middle, use to be utterly boring crap.
