    This hasn't been much help.

I've gone for the defending champ.

    Gone a boxed trifecta on:
    2 - Almandin
    5 - Marmelo
    6 - Red Cardinal
    7 - Johannes Vermeer
    20 - Wall of Fire

Just finger in the wind to make it more interesting.

He could be amazing, and win the thing by 6 lengths. But the fact is that no horse has ever won the Melbourne Cup without a run in Australia beforehand. Now obviously that streak will probably end soon, but I steer clear because history suggests you just don't know how well a horse will respond to Aussie conditions.

Well... records are made to be broken, I suppose. Rekindling had a beautiful run, was the winner about 300 out.

Marmelo just took off way too early, think it probably settled a bit too far forward.

Got it in the sweep stake too.

Backed it early to win at $12. The tote would have been much nicer

I had win bets on the second and third placed.
As a non regular punter I just go for the big win.
If I had each way on them I would have made a little.

TAB online froze me out while at work so no bets placed in the end. Did have Rekindling in the pub sweepstakes so got a small return from that.

Was an enjoyable race to watch this year.

Always like having look at what the jockeys said post race re their rides

    https://www.punters.com.au/news/what-the-jockeys-said-2017-melbourne-cup_163802/

    Couple of interesting ones....

Blake Shinn - Humidor (19th): "He just doesn't run two miles (3200m), it's as simple as that. He gave me a nice ride throughout but when the pressure went on he didn't respond."

Frankie Dettori - Almandin (12th): "I was stuck three-wide but the horse was flat. He never carried me today and ran like a flat horse."

Hugh Bowman - Marmelo (9th): "I expected a bit more. I had to make a little bit of use of him early but I had a nice position and he relaxed well. The pressure built a bit earlier than I would've liked I must admit but I thought he would've taken me a bit further."

Frankie must be wondering whether he'll ever win one.

I didn't pick a horse, I just like seeing them come into the home stretch twelve wide gaze at the pack and try to catch who's coming, my eye went to Rekindling, looked the winner all the way down stretch because it looked like it was carrying a fuckofalot less weight. OKay, only three kilos less, but it looked like ten!

Poor old Gingernuts getting injured like that. At least was before race and not during, could have been much worse,

King a massive let down yesterday. Million dollar colt that had a cracking jump out. Just couldnt deliver.

Both redzel and Embelish got up that. Geez Redzel is some talent. Trainer keeps saying we are all under rating it. After 6 wins in a row including the Everest.....much respect. Great odds too at $4.50!

Well that turned out to be a great arvo/evening at Ellerslie. Punt club did well on the winners, plenty of heat and quite a lot of attention. Own bets did very well too, nailed two trifectas and a couple of multis to make it a very profitable night. My mate who came along had never been to the races before and only took $50 to return with $800 plus. Farken good time.

    Primo mate!

Karaka sales started too. We have two Savabeel's in (Filly and a Colt) Filly went really well after a slow start and is off to Chris Waller (Te Akau was underbidder) Colt is later today.
