If the Chiefs beat the Brumbies in the next game the Crusaders could do the same and rest a few players as they can’t be caught for 2nd if the Chiefs win.
It could be the battle of the second stringers.

Couldn't agree more, coaches probably won't or shouldn't risk more players than they need to if they get into that position!

    What a game.

Surely Mark Telea is the AB 14. Imagine those trys in a World Cup!

I have always been a little skeptical of Telea in the ABs simply because he doesn't stand out in terms of pace and size.
But he takes great options, is as slippery as an eel, and I know fuck all about rugby.
    He's gotta be in.

@Frank He also played well vs Scotland and England last year. Pretty useful trial.

Telea is such a solid player. May not be as spectacular as a Will Jordan but utterly dependable.

Def. the sort of player you need in a RWC.

He was due, there were beginning to be rumblings that he'd been quiet recently after the strong start to the season, so excellent to see.

On tonight's evidence I'm not even sure that's true ...

Yeah I've got him above Jordan. Just makes every decision on the money. But I don't seem to rate Jordan as high as most people anyway.

Mark Telea has a bit of Lukanyho Am about him.

You don’t quite know how or why he is any good. But he is.

Lacks the top end gas I like to see in my NZ wingers though.

He’s better than Caleb Clarke anyway.

I'm going to be honest, I didn't know Telea was slow. I mean he's half black South African so I just assumed he was fast. 😉

Anyway, I think it's rule for the ABs to have a slow winger in a RWC - it worked out with NMS, not so much with Bridge though.

I think he's just got a strange, stiff running style which makes him look like he's struggling. A bit like Ardie's old man run, he's going faster than it looks.

@Bones yeah the 50m try he scored didn’t exactly show a lack of pace.

Yeah, but overall he reminds me of those great soccer strikers (think Lineker) who score loads of goals - virtually all of which you'd regard as workmanlike rather than spectacular. Which is a skill in itself

The soccer reference is wasted on me, but his tries tonight leaned more towards the spectacular than the workmanlike (IMHO obviously 😉 ).

They certainly looked like good tries and he is a wonderfully balanced runner for sure.

But it was one of those games wasn’t it….

Pissing out of the heavens, wet track, ball bouncing everywhere. Players unable to adjust to quick changes of direction in the wet.

Can he do it in Ellis park on sunkissed grass.

    I jest. I jest.

Hopefully he can keep it up. Whether it’s him Narawa , Stevenson or Jordan we need a couple of guns out wide.

2019 was insipid with Bridge, Beauden , Goodhue, ALB in the back line. Yuck

Will Jordan is a freak. You can’t coach pace.

No one else in the squad scores the try he scored against Ireland in the Cake Tin.

Telea joined Joeli Vidiri, Doug Howlett, Mils Muliaina and Rieko Ioane as Blues to notch a four tries in one game

    Good company.

Would have BB made a difference yesterday. Telea is a gamer and is he really slow? Plummer went pretty well and not sure Perofeta is an improvement. Actually Plummer plays pretty well wherever they put him.
