Wild card option: Aaron Mauger is doing a good job with Leicester.

Spoke to a mate over the weekend who works within the Crusaders organistaion and seems to know what's going on.

Apparently Joe Schmidt has applied and is very keen.

The players choice is Scott Robertson.

The players were really pissed off at Fatson when he went and talked to the Blues last season.

But the Crusaders have a history of always picking their coach from within the region. Will they finally break that tradition? I think they should.

Yes, contracted until June 2017, apparently.

In fairness, he is a demi-god in Ireland (or at least in the Pale), so they would probably acquiesce if he asked to be let off early. He has a son with quite bad epilepsy, and if that was part of the reason to move back home, I doubt the IRFU would stand in his way. Would be a PR disaster in Ireland for them if they insisted he see out his contract ahead of his son's well-being.

I would he happy enough, but I would want "Leinster-style" rugby from his HEC success days, rather than the percentage kicking rugby that has typified much of his Irish reign.

Depends on who applies and what their plans are.

I don't think there's anything particularly broken at the Crusaders that we need a massive change in direction. We will undoubtedly get some fine-tuning on Toddy's little ways with whomever might be chosen from within the region.

I certainly don't think we should take someone from outside the region just for the sake of it.
